What mountain teams will be a force next season.

Featured Replies

In the new divisions what mountain teams will be a force next season?

Clay County gets almost everyone back next year, they should be one of the top mountain teams in the new 5A division.

Who else will be loaded.

As always

Johnson Central will be a solid team once again next season. Although the # of seniors on this team was somewhat low, the impact and leadership they showed will be hard to replace. The things that JC is going to have the toughest time replacing is the leadership they had on the defense with the its 2 stud linebackers in Tackett and Johnson and what O-lineman can step in and fill the shoes left by the senior. I think this team will have a hard time capturing the regional title again with us being clumped together in Region 3 with Cov. Cath. and Highlands but I believe we will be very competitive next year. I also believe we have to be considered the district favorite at this point but its still early to say.

Corbin returns everyone as well.

1A - Pikeville, Paintsville, Harlan, Hazard

2A - Corbin, Leslie Co., Middlesboro, Prestonsburg

3A - Somerset, Breathitt Co., Belfry, Sheldon Clark

4A - Bell Co., Rockcastle Co., Lawrence Co. (with luck)

5A - Johnson Central, Clay Co. (with luck)

6A - nobody...

Who should we designate "honorary mountain team" in 6A ?!?

Has anyone else noticed that Somerset jumps from 1A all the way to 3A ??

What's caused all the growth there in the past 2-3 years ?!?

They have been a really big 1A school this year. They would qualify as 2A in the next alignment, but they chose to play up into 3A. Their district will include Casey County, Garrard County, Jackson County, Taylor County and Wayne County. All of those opponents are closer to them than their past Class 1A district opponents. Plus, they'll be the dominant "name" program in that district, which should mean continued success.

Somerset was placed into the district with Corbin, Mboro, Leslie, and Knott but elected to play up a class.

I guess Madison Central and George Rogers Clark are the closest 6A teams, although that's a fairly long way from the mountains!

No one in their new district is at the level of Corbin or Middlesboro, and probably not Leslie County either. While I'm sure some of their fans would like to see the Jumpers play Corbin and Middlesboro and Leslie, their team will be a very dominant force in the new 3A district.

Looks good to me. With LC being in the district with Greenup, Rowan and Boyd, who would be considered the pre-season district favorite for this district next year?

That's a good list. Sheldon Clark retruns everybody so they are a team to watch out for. I also don't think you can ever leave Ashland out of anything!

What class is Pulaski SW next year?

The 3A district will be a tough one, Somerset, and Belfry. This should make some exciting football.

According to mapquest, Somerset and Belfry are 175 miles away from each other, that seems like a long way to drive for a district game!

Belfry 3a's dostroct os SC, Pike Central, and East Ridge.

I think the same mountain teams that dominate will still dominate. You just will see some teams that arent as good with real good records due to easy non district schedule and better teams with worse records because teams like Corbin, Belfry, Bell and Rock (just naming a few) will get out and play some tuff games earlya nd might take a couple lumps but they will still dominate.

They aren't in the same district. They could play in the playoffs, but it won't be until the third round. There's a whole lot of football to happen before those two square off.
