Rock and Roll 2020 Hall Of Fame Nominees

Featured Replies

Maybe we should just take a year off and revisit the list of candidates next year. :D

Dave Matthews Band

Pat Benatar

Depeche Mode

The Doobie Brothers

Whitney Houston

Judas Priest

Kraft Werk

MC5

Motorhead

Nine Inch Nails

The Notorious B.I.G.

Rufus featuring Chaka Khan

Todd Rundgren

Soundgarden

T. Rex

Thin Lizzy

Thin Lizzy should've been elected in the R&R HOF by now. Personally, I'd also vote for Motorhead, Judas Priest, and probably the Doobie's.

Todd Rundgren is an interesting choice. He has a few nice songs, but much of his catalog is just plain weird, and a lot of it is unlistenable. But, he's had a nice career as a producer for Badfinger, The New York Dolls, Hall and Oates, Meat Loaf and others.

I like Pat Benatar, but she's not HOF material IMO. Same with Soundgarden.

Whitney probably gets in, but no way is she Rock and Roll. Same with Rufus and Chaka Khan.

Since other Rappers have gotten in, I suppose Biggie should be in as well.

I'm a hard no on the rest as well.

Looks like a lot of deserving acts, to me. Actually, this seems like a year when there aren’t a lot of first time eligible acts and it’s a good time to recognize some of those who have been snubbed.

My first guess as to who gets in, assuming 5:

Notorious BIG (the only lock of the group, I’d say)

Pat Benetar

Depeche Mode

Motörhead

Whitney Houston

I’d like to see NIN, Soundgarden, and Thin Lizzy but I’m not seeing it.

It’s ultimately meaningless, but I enjoy the conversation.

No love for T. Rex???

Holy moley, Marc Bolen and T. Rex had an influence on just about everyone out there...The Who, David Bowie, The Smiths, Ringo Starr, Rod Stewart, The Ramones, Elton John, The Pixies....

Yes, I should have included T Rex in my “I’d like to see it but I’d be surprised” section.

Not from me. I can't name a song other than Bang a Gong that T Rex did. I get that they were influential. And I know the HOF isn't just about commercial success. I just don't see them as HOF worthy.

I know the song. Didn’t know it was T-Rex. Still doesn’t get them in the HOF.

But there are bound to be artists outside of some people's wheelhouse or even outside of their knowledge that still have merit to be inducted to the HOF, right?

Sure. That’s what’s tough about the Rock and Roll HOF. It’s so subjective.

I definitely agree with you there.

Lots of worthy nominees.. Some a little surprised they're not already in. MC5 was a nominee last year as well but since they're not that well known I've doubts they'll be accepted this time either. Just as it usually is lots of famous musicians who are more on the pulse of things are often influenced by not so well known bands where the influence is undeniable yet the popular culture is unaware of them. MC5 is a great example. They even had a 50 year reunion tour last year but only the guitarist and drummer are still alive. All remaining spots in the band were filled by other famous musicians such as Soundgarden's guitarist. Their original drummer was also replaced as he can't hold his own anymore
