KRS 237.109 - Carry Concealed Firearms - From the Boone County Sheriff's Office, KY

Featured Replies

Beginning on 6/27/2019, per KRS 237.109, any person who is 21 years or older and who is lawfully able to possess a firearm, may carry concealed firearms or deadly weapons without a license in the same locations as persons with valid licenses issued under KRS 237.110.

There's still some locations where you can't carry a concealed firearm (KRS 237.110):

Any police station or sheriff's office

Any detention facility or jail

Any courthouse, courtroom or court proceeding

Any meeting of a government body: county, municipality, special district, General Assembly or General Assembly committee.

Any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense beer or alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, which portion of the establishment is primarily devoted to that purpose.

Elementary, secondary school, any child-care facility (defined by KRS), day-care center (defined by KRS), or certified family child-care home (defined by KRS).

An area of the airport to which access is controlled by the inspection of persons and property.

Or any place where the carrying of firearms is prohibited by federal law.

Yee haw! The wild wild west grows some more. Thanks for the information.

Is it ok to just put the six shooter in a hip holster in plain view? That would be a great deterent.

Also, does anybody that actually carries NOT carry in the places you're not supposed to?

You've always been able to open carry in KY, I believe.

I think anyone that carries should respect the exceptions except "the bar one" which defeats the purpose of having a gun if you ask me.

Additionally Deuce, we all know unless there is someone checking you everyone that carries, carries all the time and those exceptions are ignored.

I will also say this part is ambiguous to me:

Any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense beer or alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, which portion of the establishment is primarily devoted to that purpose.

I agree and just had this discussion recently, I wish more people would open carry, that is a definite deterrent.

Stupid.

I feel different. We all know the "bad guys and gals" are going to carry no matter what so if anything this will encourage more righteous people to carry and I think that is mostly a good thing.

I think it also encourages more idiots who have no business carrying to start packing. :lol2:

I carry everywhere there aren't metal detectors, and I wouldn't carry in a police station probably either.

Exactly what I believe happens at least 98% of the time if not more.

Maybe but hopefully we all come together for the common good.

It has always been legal to open carry "Cowboy Style", nothing has changed on that.

A couple of reasons to keep or get a Concealed Carry permit is that it allows you to purchase a firearm from a registered gun dealer withour further background checks. Another reason to have one is that several surrounding states recognize them and will allow you to carry concealed in those states.

Kentucky State Police complete routine background checks throughout the year on everyone that has a permit, which is why no further checks are required when you purchase a firearm.
