November 24, 200619 yr I don't think its a joke. First, as pointed out earlier, there are several instances of this type of thing happening and it affecting the Heisman race. Second, its not like this is a new thing for the people at Ohio State University. It's a valid point. All that being said, I don't know of anyone who deserves the Heisman more than Troy Smith, and I think he'll get it. That's why more than just a guy from Tulsa vote on the thing! :thumb: It is a joke when you bring the subject up 2 years after the fact. As someone stated earlier the NCAA investigated the matter, made their decision and Smith was cleared to play, had a great season and is more than deserving of the award.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that a lot of schools commit violations. However, if the kid is still playing he's still eligible for all awards...IMO. If you have a problem with O$U and their "rep", then send a message.

I stated that he should win, he has done nothing to say otherwise. I have some inside interest in the program so I don't appreciate it when someone bad mouth's the program without recent merit to do so. November 25, 200619 yr I think a point being missed here is that Troy Smith broke the big rule by taking money from a booster. This wasn't a family friend he'd known for years, this was a straight-up cash payment for a football player. It does in my opinion tarnish everything he'll ever do on the amatuer level. This was a mistake made by a young man being influenced by big money. Every person posting on this subject, if put in the same position, would most likely react in the same manner. We all make mistakes in our younger years. Troy Smith has matured into a very responsible young man. I am very impressed w/ him during interviews. While I'm sure taking the money is something he regrets, I would suggest it was part of his growing up process. Just one of the many life experiences that help build character. When you learn and rebound from a situation like this, as Troy has, it only makes you a better overall person. For someone to suggest this situation warrants not voting for him for the Heisman is ridiculous and shows how much some people really hate The Ohio State University.
