Big games on campus = better for the fans

 

Big games at neutral sites = better for brands ($$) and job securities

 

Sucks, but true.

I will say this about one neutral site game that I don’t have a problem with and that’s OU/Texas. Although I still do believe that game would be better if it was played in Norman or Austin, the tradition of having it every year at the Texas State Fair is pretty cool. Even the worlds largest outdoor cocktail party in Jacksonville I would like to see them do away with. I want to see UGA in the Swamp. We have so many historic and amazing stadiums on these college campuses that it’s a shame they play some of these games at cookie cutter, corporate, NFL stadiums.

The only two years it was on campus was when they were remodeling the stadium for the beginning of the Jacksonville Jaguars franchise.

Those are traditional neutral site games, which I think most are fine with. I think the complaint is more about the made-for-TV games at the beginning of the season that have proliferated in the last decade.

In the end, these matchups are what we want to see and good for football. I'm glad to see the top teams for the most part going out to play other top programs in true road games.

 

I think one of the things that has allowed this to happen is the playoff format. If it came down to just two teams (whether it be the polls, or the BCS)...being undefeated was huge. Why risk an early season loss, even if it was to another powerhouse team? Now, you can suffer a loss, rebound and win your conference, and still have a pretty good shot at getting in.

 

In fact, I think if you expanded the playoffs (to 16, or even just 8), and put some serious weight on the scheduling, you'd likely see it even more. Traveling, and even losing to, a powerhouse program SHOULD carry more weight than staying at home and blowing out some hyphenated school just there for a paycheck.

Yeah those are definitely my complaints as well. I definitely don’t mind OU/TX and UGA/UF being neutral site. Plus those neutral sites are much more regional, rivalry games, and fans from both schools populate the area the game is being played at.

All things Bama. And the show goes on. This radio topic came from other fans claiming that Bama fans were upset because they don't get a quality home game to see during the season. It's just the new fodder to throw against Alabama. They scheduled tough competition for the most part; but that's not good enough, now they need to do it on the road.
