The question is who will Russell get to be the next head coach?

Anyone know why Coach Bryan Groves is no longer coach? I thought for sure they would have had a long term coach since he is a Russell alumnus.

Was this a resignation or was he non-renewed?

I'm not sure if it was resignation or non-renewed.

He was told he would no longer be the coach at Russell yesterday.

This job has been a revolving door. What's the deal?

I honestly don't know what the deal is. They don't seem to stick with a coach very long. As a Russell Alum I feel like they need to give a coach more than 3 years to build a team. I think the fact that Groves failed to make the region tournament in 2 out of 3 years probably had something to do with moving on to a new coach. Russell has a proud tradition in Academics and Athletics and expects to be competitive each year in all sports.

When was their last winning season?

2012-13 under Coach Merle Kidwell at 26-8 a very good team that was neck and neck with Fleming Co. for the best in the 16th.

I’m surprised Russell is Open again. Will this be their 4th coach in 7 years?

‘19-‘20. New Coach

That is a tough way to build a program.

Do they have somebody in place to take over the program or are they going to hire somebody completely new?

I have no clue who the next coach might be. But whoever it is, they'll be inheriting a team with some immediate upside. Russell returns about 98% of its scoring from last season. This was a team that was in position to win maybe 16 or 17 games but let several wins get away from them with a consistent inability to close games out.

 

The new coach should be able to hit the ground running and win right away. This is not a rebuilding job.

Important hire for sure.

Like DMC said Russell has some good pieces combing back next year and should be able to win some games. When Jared Goodman comes back from injury that will help as well. He was really starting to play well before his injury.
