The Year of the Small School in NKY?

Featured Replies

Seems like a legitimate case could be made; at least so far.

Walton-Verona over Simon Kenton

Beechwood over Covington Catholic (first district title in 70 years)

Newport over Highlands

If St. Henry beats Dixie, can we make it official?

St. Henry will beat Dixie and we can make it official.

Frankfort is another small school having a great year. I think they won their district surrounded by much bigger schools.

Very great insight and certainly not the norm in NKY. Congrats to all of these solid teams!

It’s official.

Regional tournament is going to be fantastic! I hope each school fills the gym with energetic fans. Can’t wait!

Not to threadjack, but I remember Mason County’s championship run in 2003. A friend who was an official told me that St. Henry was as tough a first-round matchup as the Royals could draw; the guys had played together basically since they could walk. He was correct. If the big kid (Schmidt?) hadn’t gone down for a few minutes, the outcome may very well have been different.

Congrats to all all the schools that qualified for their regional tournaments, and way to stand tall, “little guys”.
