Covington Catholic 70 Holmes 61 (35th District Semifinals)

It sounds like Holmes executed a solid game plan. That is what you have to love about tournament time, with solid execution any team can compete. Great effort!

Valiant effort from the Bulldogs tonight. Essentially playing only 6 players and hung in there until the final buzzer.

Coach Carr's did a really good job of hanging in there with their 2-3 zone and utilizing some halfcourt trap at times to create turnovers.

Dozier did a yeoman's job on the the boards and with crafty shots around the rim. Ryan Green did all he could to keep the Dogs in there and I feel they began to tire late third and into the 4th quarter.

I think this game is something really positive for the Bulldog program going forward. Develop some more underclassman and create more depth and play like Coach Carr wants to play.

They all battled and kept it close.

I thought the dagger was Disken's 3 at the end of the 3rd quarter that rattled around the rim and off the board to push the lead to 8.

Thelen was really good in the 3rd quarter.

CCH is so darn big and will be tough for anyone to handle in the paint. CCH along with Cooper are on a collision course for the region title and I don't think that is a surprise.

CCH just had too much size and mauled the Dogs on the boards.

Michael Mayer is an absolute gamechanger for Cov Cath. He just comes in, cleans up the glass, and does his job. He scored in double-figures against the Bulldogs as well. The Colonels will need that toughness on the boards again on Thursday against Beechwood.

He absolutely is. 14 and 9 last night-many folks on this board didn't think he could add much, but he owns the boards, and has improved his offensive efficiency.

Mayer and Thelen were the two players for CCH that impressed me last night. Without either one of them, I am not sure CCH wins last night. Maybe it was a bad night, but that was the worst outside shooting I have seen by CCH since Ruthsatz became coach.

While on occasion they've had decent shooting nights, generally they have struggled with consistency in this department all season. They're very fortunate with lots of length which is pretty much their bread and butter along with an incredible guard in Diskin.

Diskin is good, but I would not call him incredible. Solid point guard.

I would. He's like the Ever Ready Bunny. Dude just never stops, and his hands are lightening quick defensively.

Shooting from the outside has been up and down all year, and they will at least need to be “solid” to make any type of a run the next few weeks. The good news is the have added the big bruiser who is there to help clean things up off missed shots.

I'm really proud of the Bulldogs for having made a game of this. Though they've had their bumps this year they were really coming around 2nd half of the season with nice wins over Holy Cross and NewCath.

No one really paid much attention to them, but to stay in the game with the Colonels says a lot especially since they lost their first meeting by 28.

There's nice talent at Holmes, and it was a pleasure watching what they had going on a few occasions this year. If you didn't see them and judged by their w/l record it might be easy to think that there was nothing going on, yet they do have some really nice players, and Coach Carr had them focused and playing as a team.

Who would you say is a good 3 point shooting team or what is a good average?

CCH shoots 36%

Cooper shoots 34%

Beechwood shoots 39%

I’m just comparing it to CCH standards with the likes of Ruthsatz and CJ the last few years. They are good enough for sure in the 9th.

Mayer is a monster! I bleed CCH BLUE and was definitely pessimistic to Michael's late arrival and how much he could add. I stand corrected, he is still a little rusty and playing at a higher level with each game. The kid is just freakishly athletic to be that big. He did a great job last night.
