tcjkbt Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 #5 Waggener takes the 10-block trip down Browns Lane to face #2 Trinity Friday night. This might be Wildcats best team since Paul Long and Keith Thomas played there in the early '60s. It is a big game for 7th Region supremacy. I'll take the Shamrocks in a close one. I don't think David Johnson for Trinity will be able to play.
HoopJunkie Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 If David Johnson isn’t playing, JJ Kalakon could be a major problem for Trinity. I still think this one will come down to coaching. And Szabo is a few notches better than O’Neill.
Smallhoops Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 I have enjoyed watching both teams this season. While Trinity is accustomed to being at the top of the heap in the Seventh Region, Waggener has not often seen the level of success it has achieved this year. The Wildcats are 15-1. While some question the strength of its schedule, Waggener has wins over Ballard and Central. Its sole loss was a 6-point loss at St. X, when James Taylor was still at St. X. Waggener plays at a pretty quick pace, and not every team is prepared for that. Trinity will be prepared for that, although David Johnson's absence will put more pressure on Trinity's rotation. As is often the case, foul trouble may play a role in the game. And to be Captain Obvious for a moment, shooting may also play a role. Both teams average close to 20 3-point attempts per game. For the season, Waggener is making 3's at a higher percentage than Trinity (38.4% v. 33.2%). The choice would be clear if Trinity had the services of David Johnson, who truly is an elite athlete. Without him, the teams looks evenly matched. So my prediction will not be a particular team; instead, my prediction is that whoever shoots a higher percentage from 3-point range will win the game. Good luck to both teams. I hope it is a good one.
NLTanker1 Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 Any of my fellow Rock faithful want to meet before the game?
