Exactly. I don’t think the baseball writers should act as the moral police when there are dudes in the Hall who did far worse things than gamble and take steroids.

I agree, but my thing with Pete Rose is don't ever agree to the lifetime ban from baseball then. I understand that MLB and the Hall of Fame are not exactly the same entity, but he literally agreed to the ban.

 

I also have to wonder how it would have worked out for him if he wasn't an absolute punk and rubbed the gambling in faces every time he sees a dollar. Commercials like he has talking about Kangaroof being a "sure bet" do him no good when he's going to file yet another appeal and claim sympathy.

 

You can't claim to know what you did was wrong and be ashamed by it then live in Vegas and have commercials, etc, dancing around the subject.

I'm on the fence with Halladay. He was the best pitcher in baseball for almost a decade, won Cy Youngs, won a World Series, no-hitter in the playoffs. I think I lean towards yes.

Of the first year guys, I see Todd Helton, Lance Merkman, Mariano Rivera, and maybe Roy Oswalt.

 

I'm pretty picky about the HOF. I think there are too many really good players in that are not the epitome of greatness.

Todd Helton will have to wait a few years because he played at Coors. Huge baseball fan, but likely my biggest pet peeve. Writers who know they will vote for a guy in year 4 or 5, but aren't going to vote in year 1 because he can't be a first ballot guy for whatever reason.

 

If you're a hall of famer in 2022 after being on the ballot for 4 years, you were talented enough to be voted in in 2018 as well.

Of course I think the entire voting process is a joke. Too many politics involved, but I will say I have no idea how you do it better.

 

When 3 people didn't think Ken Griffey Jr. was a hall of famer, we have a problem.

I don't agree with Bonds, Clemens, etc not being in the HOF, but at least can see some merit in the other sides argument. The fact that Larry Walker isn't either makes me, LOL.
