If ask coaches if they'd rather have a place they can win at, or a job that has great facilities, great campus life, etc., but doesn't have a winning atmosphere or environment, I'd be willing to bet all (or nearly all) would take the job that they can win at, regardless of the other factors.

Jimbo Fisher. Left a program that has a great history of winning for a program that doesn’t have a history of winning. You have a ceiling a place like Purdue you have certain obstacles that no matter who the coach is, you won’t be able to overcome. What obstacles are there are at UL?

I totally agree that Babers would be a better candidate but frankly and I mean this with all sincerity, is UofL better than the rise he is on at Syracuse? I think not! In the same conference and had Syracuse made a fg at the end of the game they would have beaten Clemson, the #2 team in the country, two years in a row! I don't see what being at UofL has to offer vs. what he's getting done with the Orange and because of this UofL should go after the hometown guy in Brohm. Babers has already rebuilt a mess at Syracuse so why would he take a step back in muck and start all over again? Brohm hasn't done much at Purdue and the fact that they just got smacked around vs. Minnesota let's me know it's going to be a while before they are relevant if at all and that's even with beating OSU which frankly there would have been a whole bunch of teams that would have lost that night.

 

UofL administration set the program back when they brought back the 2nd Act of Petrino so they have a ton of work to do.

Potential is great but eventually potential has to prove out. Fact is Purdue has better results over the long haul. That's not even debatable. It's simply facts. Purdue was a good program under Tiller. Kentucky has not been a good program under anyone in the last 20-30 years. They've had good years but no one has been able to have sustained success. Brooks is probably as close to it as we've had. You can say how wrong we are and our opinions are absurd but where to the statics point?

I look at what Brohm has done at Purdue, and think, yep, on par with every other Boilermaker coach (with the exception of Hazzell) in the last 20 years. Now has he recruited better or increased the talent level and depth? Maybe so, but the end results are the same, which seems to make it a legitimate question as to why he'd be a potential candidate at a place like USC (as was mentioned in this thread).

Getting kids to come to West Lafayette is not easy, then getting kids there that can actually meet admission standards is even more difficult. The majority of the Big 10 is difficult to recruit to. Hell there are players that Ohio State and Michigan have had to turn away due to admission standards. Recruiting in the Big 10 is not easy. That’s why what Wisconsin does is so impressive because they’ve had sustained success while being unable to recruit a lot of great players. These are things that definitely help determine how great a job is.

Doesn't all this maybe lead one to pause about Brohm's coaching chops? If he's been able to up the talent level at Purdue, which you claim is a horrible job, but the W-L record is no better than what it's been for the past 20 years, is it fair to wonder how well a job he does at coaching said talent?

Your right. UK's has all the advantages. That's why they've had all this success in my life time, oh wait... But what do I know, I'm obviously not as smart as you since Purdue has clear had no luck winning football games the last 20 years.
