Shooting At California Nightclub

Featured Replies

A mass shooting at a Thousand Oaks, California nightclub left nearly a dozen people wounded, including a Ventura County sheriff's deputy. The shooting happened around 11:20 p.m. Wednesday at Borderline Bar & Grill at 99 Rolling Oaks Dr. as the nightclub was hosting a college night.

I believe they said the officer has died.

The gunman is dead, possibly by his own hand.

At least 11 injured in shooting at Thousand Oaks nightclub, gunman dead, police say

Shooter was dead when police entered the building.

Sheriff said as of now, it appears weapon was a sole handgun.

Up to 13 at last count.

Sheriff said 12, he refused to count the shooter with the others.

Deputy walked into a hail of gunfire according to the sheriff's statement. CHiP officer pulled him back out, but he passed away at the hospital.

29 years as a deputy and close to retirement.

Sheriff said 12, he refused to count the shooter with the others.

He said 11 victims, 1 gunman, and the sheriff's deputy. That's 13 dead anyway you want to slice it.

I wasn't disagreeing, just saying the sheriff doesn't count the shooter when speaking of the number killed. Doesn't want to put him in with true victims.

I know we ask this every time something happens, but how do we slow down (or stop) the frequency of these events? There have been bad parents forever so I don't completely buy that theory, although it definitely hasn't helped.

Yikes....Killer was a 29 year old former Marine with PTSD. Police had been called to his home for irrational and erratic behavior in April and he was evaluated and determined to not need to be detained by a mental health professional.

Domestic terrorism.

And there's always a mental illness in these situations...

Reports that there were 6 off-duty officers from various areas in the bar at the time of the shooting. Sounds like some of them stood in front of groups of people to protect them when the gunfire started. Heroes.

Understatement, sheesh.

Understatement, sheesh.

Yep. When this type of stuff happens, I look for the stories of the heroes and the helpers. It's the only way to maintain any type of faith in humanity in these situations IMO.

Sheesh...50-60 people in the bar last night were also at the concert during the Vegas mass shooting last year.

Sounds like one of those movie series.

This is just tragic in so many ways.
