In game one between these longstanding district rivals Mayfield continually shot themselves in the foot with silly penalties and unforced turnovers, but still managed to shut down a Murray offense that is basically one dimensional and won 24-0. IMO I see the Cards continuing their play as of late by taking care of the football and putting up lots of points on the board against the Tigers defense. I can't see the Tigers putting many points on the board against Mayfield...especially if the Cards offense does not turn it over. Murray's last game at War Memorial Stadium (do to the fact that THEY will not play Mayfield afte this year even though both schools have the same open date in week two of next years schedule) will not be a pleasant one for the Tigers.

Mayfield did want to play Murray, but Murray has decided not to play as of now! Mayfield will be picking up Calloway County, Heath, and most likely Caldwell County to fill its schedule.

 

Back to the game this week...Murray won't be able to score against Mayfield unless on a fluke play. Nothing against Murray, they just don't have the horses! Shelton and the Cards roll on.............

Your taking a outsiders view which is a logical observation. What you are not seeing is why Mayfield wants to keep Murray on the schedule. Its our second oldest and longest rival, a special game still to many. Usually a competitive game though Murray has only managed 1 win since the late 70's. I think this has led to a dislike between the two teams, Murray out of frustration and Mayfield feeling like Murray does not respect Mayfield. many in Mayfield (myself included) seem to get more satisfaction from beating Murray than just about anyone else on the schedule. I will deeply miss playing the Tigers

I think that Mayfield will win by at least 3 TD's, but a poor performance will have me worried going into the third round of the playoffs, should we win. I look for this cards team to be focused and ready to play the type of football we are accustomed to seeing.

I don't see anybody touching the Cards in the region!

It will be a sad moment when the final gun sounds Fri Night at War Memorial Stadium, I will truly miss Murray

The Cardinals are going to be picking turkey out of their teeth and returning to practice on Thanksgiving the same way they have done for 19 of the past 24 years or something ridiculous, and all of you guys know it.

 

I honestly don't know how CardsVoice, Toothpick, westsider, Mayfieldsportsfan, GoBigRed, and all the rest of you redbird rooters keep from getting bored the first 3 weeks of November each year.

Honestly Hear, it hasnt always been a cake walk and Metcal, Russellville and Murray all recall 1997, Murray has had some great teams as recent as a few seasons ago

Yeah, Russellville has a nice history, too. They came up here in '92 and played my brother's Bardstown team in a blizzard, so they've been around.
