The west has the offense, the east has the defense. Defense wins championships, and for the past several years thats exactly what has done it. 2002 Breathitt went into the game supposively with a defense that couldn't stop the Lawson kid from corbin, and ibelieve he finished with around 47 yards rushing. Breathitt won 51-0. Belfry, Russel, Middlesboro, Leslie, Prestonsburg all these teams have a pretty good defense. Not saying the west can't win it, because I honestly believe every team left in 2a is pretty even besides a few 3 seeds. 2a is up for grabs it's just who ever wants it the most, but I highly doubt that Mercer has played a team that is more physical than a Belfry or Russel

It was a three year process actually.. it started with the Lanham/Bernard team in 2003, continued through their loss to Belfry in 2004, and culminated with Russell taking care of the Aces last year.

IMO the winner of 2a will be from the East..

 

Belfry, Russell, Middlesboro, P'Burg or Leslie. The last 2 teams I just listed are longshots to say the least, I know, but are capable of some upsets.

I don`t know for sure what part of Ky. Mercer is from ...I think central....I think that is who wins the 2a

I have no problem with any teams fans posting, or for believing in their team for that matter. I was just pointing out that last year a lot of O'Cath's fans thought that everyone else was playing for 2nd place, and that the championship game wouldnt' even be close. I guess I'm just old school, where I was taught to respect everyone.

I agree with you on the first sentence of post #33, however it appears from your second statement an inference that all other teams ARE playing for 2nd place this year. Good Luck to Russell, as well as all other teams, in a state championship quest.

Give Mercer all the respect they deserve, I don't care who you have played and when you go undefeated in the regular season you deserve respect. Yes a good team on any given night can be beat. They do not have a cake walk next week against a good team in Newport. Mercer has worked hard over the years to put this team on the field and I think everyone should respect what they have done to date. I think over all from what I have read and seen in Bluegrass Preps they are one of the best 2A teams around. There are still alot of good teams in the playoffs and I do not think Mercer is looking ahead. I wish them only the best of luck. JD

Thank you, these boys do deserve respect, they have worked hard to get where they are and had many obstacles to overcome during the merged team. Looking ahead to Newport, one game at a time but always hoping for more! Best of luck to remaining 2A teams, I'll be cheering for my TITANS! :banana:

I think over all from what I have read and seen in Bluegrass Preps they are one of the best 2A teams around.

They (are) would be one of the best 2A teams if they were actually a 2A team (they are actually a 2A team despite high 3A enrollment - 5A next year). If Mercer fails to win 2A this year, it could be one of the biggest upsets in highschool history........

 

.... I think everyone should respect what they have done to date.

Most 2A teams remaining (not all) could accomplish the same record with the soft schedule Mercer has played, still very respectable.

Same ol' Same ol'..........Good luck to everyone that is alive and playing. Mercer is a good team. They play hard and respect their opponents. They are taught to play the game right by their great coaching staff. They play the hand they are dealt. They werent the dealer. They just got some spades in their deck. The best team will win whether they have 70 players or 40 players. I want to say that I'm proud of these kids at Mercer that joined from both schools who were once rivals but now teammates. What they have done in such a short amount of time being together. Roughly since july is simply amazing. They have tooken a divided town and brought it together. Somthing outsiders no nothing of. Whether you guys win state or lose next week you have laid the foundation for somthin special to build on. With the coaching staff,facilities, and great young players coming up the Titans will be a player in 5A where noone can complain about their enrollment. 11-0 with 4 to go. Take state!

I'm just making a prediction. I'm not being so bold as to say that Russell can't be beat, or that Russell will name the score in any game they play. That is the type of posting I just can't understand.
