What about QB Keith Tandy, how did he do?

Christian Co. played with very little effort and and enthusiasm if not for an interception late in the 4th Graves would have won by 2 scores. That INT did lead to a TD for Christian but Graves sucked it up and made the plays down the stretch.

 

Graves threw it adequately and ran the ball well. The Graves Lines won the battle up front and beat the Colonels up.

 

Keith Tandy (Christian Co.) played hard and left it on the field but probably had his worst decision making game of the year. He threw 2 interceptions his first one he threw it right to the Graves defender and on his 2nd one he pannicked with over 2 minutes to go and 2nd down at the Graves 25 yard line he just threw up for grabs in the endzone and resulted in an easy pick for the Graves defender. He also got sacked for a 15 yard loss when the Colonels had the ball on the Graves 5. 2 plays later Christian did punch it in to the endzone.

 

Tandy had 19 carries for 147 yards and a TD. Not sure of his passing stats but had the 2 picks and a TD his 32nd TD pass of the year. He played hard for 4 quarters which is what you expect from him.

 

Christian Co. struggled when they would get inside the 20 tonight and that's been a problem for them all year.

 

Dee Lett (Christian Co.) DE/RB did return for the playoffs and got several reps for the Colonel defense.

 

Graves Co. outplayed the Colonels and got confidence early after a score on their opening drive and didn't choke in the final minutes when things wasn't going their way.

Mike Whitaker inherrited some good tallent and a lot of athletes. I remember in 1999 & 2000 Dan Goble played a good number of freshmen and sophomores. The 2001 and 2002 teams coached by Mike Whitaker benefitted from that early playing experience.

 

2003: I have never seen a team fall apart like they did. Especially from a coaching standpoint when you defninitely had a staff devided and bickering.

 

2004: They had some success but a poor coaching decision by Whitaker cost them the game against Warren Central in the playoffs. Up by 7 4th & goal at the 10 LATE in the game and he opted to go for it instead of kicking a FG. He had one of the best kickers in Western, Ky that year in Taylor Long and didn't call on him in that situation. Instead they turn it over on downs and WC scores a late TD and later wins it in overtime.

 

2005: They had a terrible defense but a high scoring offense. They blew the big lead late against WC but still to this day Mike Whitaker says the refs took it from them and WC did not beat them. Lossed 18 seniors

 

2006: They were a little better on defense and relied on big plays on offense. Inconsistent running game and some injuries hurt them in their losses. They Are loseing 22 seniors.

 

Some talk that Whitaker hasn't won the big game. I disagree in some ways with that he beat Henderson and Hopkinsville in 2003. Some coaches have said they peak at the midpoint of the season and then right before the playoffs you see a drop off. Another thing that has hurt them is the constant change at the Defensive Coordinators position. This was the 1st time since Whitaker has been there he had the same Defensive Coordinator for consecutive seasons.

I didn't know that that was how he felt. Perhaps he should look inward and instead ask why they passed the ball at all in the fourth quarter. If they just once run the ball and run the clock instead of passing the ball and throwing it incomplete, they probably win the game. Classic Christian collapse in that game. Anyone can put it on the referees, but in the end you look at a 21 point lead that evaporated and ask yourself how that could be the referee's fault.

 

I am with you on the '05 situation, but that's Christian for you. It really is a question most years of who beat them: the other team, or themselves. It's just amazing to me that a team could have so much talent and do so little with it. As I said, the '04 district championship is all they have, and really, who won that district when you consider the last team standing that year?

 

But truly their biggest issue was that they never fully solved Warren Central, and now they won't get the chance.

maybe whitaker should prepare for the team he is playing in round 1 and not who he played the week before and thought he would play next week. one word "film"!!!!!

Not even the biggest upset so far, but an upset none the less.

Some of us felt Graves was capable of doing this to Christian during the regular season, but the Eagles were smoked that night. Graves beat the Colonels in the same style last season, with a ball-control style that kept the ball out of Keith Tandy's hands as much as possible.

 

Big win for Graves. This is the second straight year that they've won a playoff game on the road ... last year it was at Owensboro. Mike Rogers and his staff sem to have a way of getting their guys to take it up a couple of notches in the postseason.

BALL CONTROL! Graves got the ball to start the 2nd half and took it down the field for a TD. Christian Co. then responded on their next possession by throwing an interception. Graves put together another long drive that took them into the 4th quarter before turning the ball over on downs. But limiting Christian Co. to 1 possession of the 3rd quarter was huge for Graves.

 

Graves had a big drive at the end of the 2nd quarter. Christian Co. had just scored a TD to take a 10-7 lead. Graves went right down the field with no problem getting a TD with 40 seconds to go before the half. The Graves backs ran hard all night several times they would bounce or go through a Colonel defender or drag 2-3 for another 3-4 yards. Poor tackleing night by Christian Co.

 

Despite playing poorly Christian Co. had a chance to win but a decision resulting in a interception for Graves sealed the deal. Graves had the ball over 2 minutes remaining and Christian Co. had all 3 timeouts. But Christian Co. couldn't stop Graves and the Graves offense got 2 first downs to run out the clock.

 

Graves defense played physical and did a good job of mixing some things up. They came with some blitzes at times and forced Tandy not to set his feet. When they went man to man in the secondary they did a good job and had 2 big pass break ups with 1 coming in the endzone.

It sounds like a repeat of his time at Corbin. They were worldbeaters early and would fizzle out come playoff time.

But those regular season games in 2003 was big games against Henderson and Hoptown. Throw in the fact they won them without their starting QB is even more impressive. I would have loved to played them in the playoffs in 03 personally. It was apparent they was fading and fading fast and add in you had coaches on the staff pointing fingers.

 

Christian Co. has said they didn't want to play Henderson and Hoptown on consecutive weeks. Whitaker says also he didn't wanna play an opponent in the regular season that he could face in the playoffs. He got his wish and a good rivalry was dropped for him. Christian Co. and Henderson played some good games over the years prior to Whitaker coming in 2001.
