BluegrassPreps Class 1A Football Rankings (9/17) Discussion

Featured Replies

Class 1A

With Pikeville's loss to 3A power Belfry only two teams remain undefeated in Class 1A, Fulton County and Lynn Camp. Lynn Cmap makes their Top 10 debut this week. Pikeville and top-ranked Beechwood stay put in their rankings while putting up valiant efforts against top-tier schools from larger classes. The Panthers will look to jump back on the winning side making the long trip to the home of the Mothman to take on a very strong Point Pleasant, West Virginia squad. Also crossing state lines for a huge game will be #3 Raceland as they take on undefeated Portsmouth West from the Buckeye State. Paintsville earned a hard fought win over Williamsburg and will now face another stiff foe in 3A Lawrence County.

1. Beechwood at 2A Covington Holy Cross at Scott (9/22)

2. Pikeville at Point Pleasant (WV)

3. Raceland at Portsmouth West (OH)

4. Hazard vs. 2A Prestonsburg

5. Paintsville vs. 3A Lawrence County

6. Campbellsville at Fort Knox

7. Crittenden County vs. 3A Union County

8. Louisville Holy Cross vs. Providence (IN)

9. Williamsburg vs. Ludlow

10. Lynn Camp vs. Jellico (TN)

It looks like the 1A top ten all have games they are favored to win this week. The 5, 7 and 9 teams have opponents that could be challenging enough to spring an upset.

Pikeville also has a shot at taking a Loss again this week. Point Pleasant seems to be a very solid team.

I'm not sure that #3 Raceland will / should be favored win vs. Ports. West, OH. this week. Playing @ Portsmouth and PWHS a very good / ranked OH. team may be too much for Raceland to come out with the win. I will say that a person would have to look a long way to find a harder hitting game this week, both of these teams really hit .

Raceland is facing the top ranked, undefeated team in their Region in Portsmouth West and it is on the road. They are Division V which is similar to a large 2A-small 3A class school in KY. I am not so sure we should be favored to win this one.

I don't see anyone in District 2 that can challenge Campbellsville.

I am shocked that we are a 12 point favorite but it is flattering.

By the way, you have a large lead in the Sandbagger of the Year award.

I will say that Raceland knows where everyone stands when it comes to who "they" think are the best teams in 1A and I hope we play with a chip on our shoulder.

Beechwood has lost consecutive games and Pikeville lost to the #4 team in 3A and are still ahead of Raceland who lost a close game to the #1 team in 4A. Yet, both teams stayed ahead of us in the polls...…...interesting.

That being said, I am not saying Raceland is the better of the 3 teams. I am just saying that polls usually reward the winning team and drops a team that loses. What I mean is, most would agree Alabama is the best football team in America but if they lose a game, they drop in the polls. They don't get to keep their position.

The only ranking worth tracking IMO is the BGP ranking. Raceland did not drop in the BGP ranking when they lost to Ashland.

1 & 2 lost this past week and 3 won but there was no change in the positioning of 1,2 or 3. I am not saying 3 is better than 1 or 2 but for the sake of polls, it doesn't follow logic.

And I agree, BGP's seems to be more accurate than any other polls.
