1 & 2 lost this past week and 3 won but there was no change in the positioning of 1,2 or 3. I am not saying 3 is better than 1 or 2 but for the sake of polls, it doesn't follow logic.

 

And I agree, BGP's seems to be more accurate than any other polls.

 

And Raceland's ranking did not change the week that they lost. BGP does the logical thing in the rankings and factors in strength of schedule as much as wins and losses.

Very well said VOR. Raceland didn’t drop the week they lost to Ashland. But I do think it could of been possible to saw a jump if Raceland did beat Ashland.

1. Beechwood has lost to arguably the best team in the state 5A CovCath and a top 3 team in 3A Corbin.

2. Pikeville lost to a top 3A team and rival, Belfry.

3. Raceland lost by 1 score to #1 ranked 4A Ashland.

 

Given the fact that IF these teams go by their losses, Raceland should move up from #3. Beechwood is the best team in 1A, I won’t disagree but they have lost 2 in a row. Pikeville and Raceland have 1 loss and Raceland losing to a larger and better ranked team should play into their placement. This is my opinion. Like I said, a poll must take into account losses, regardless of how good or average we think a team is. Beechwood IS the best 1A team but if they continue to lose will you keep them #1 based on this logic or do you start moving people up that are winning?

The only poll that matters is the one at the end of the year. Teams that get excited about mid season polls have either never been to the mountain top, or don't play anybody of significance and get over inflated records due to not playing anybody, and then they get exposed in the playoffs.

I agree with you about polls. I just am trying to have a discussion about this particular poll. I have stated several times already that Beechwood is the best 1A team. I am just trying to have a discussion about voting in polls. We saw first hand last year how good BW is as we couldn’t stop them in any aspect of the game.

I used to follow BW back in the 90’s when Coach Yeager ran things. The 1992 and 1993 seasons saw me drive from NEKY to NKY to watch every game, including playoffs. I love the attitude, tradition and the class BW has always shown. Now that I have shown so much love to the Tigers, I want to beat them silly!!!

Looking at this weeks games Raceland could move up with a win and a Pikeville loss.

 

Belfry and Ashland are very comparable, and if those two played I would pick Belfry. It’s no offense to Ashland, I just feel Belfry would own the LOS in the match up.

 

Pikeville last week, this week and the next one coming week should be really battle tested. Hazard will be traveling to Pikeville next week. It will also tell us where Hazard is as well.

I will say that Raceland knows where everyone stands when it comes to who "they" think are the best teams in 1A and I hope we play with a chip on our shoulder.

Beechwood has lost consecutive games and Pikeville lost to the #4 team in 3A and are still ahead of Raceland who lost a close game to the #1 team in 4A. Yet, both teams stayed ahead of us in the polls...…...interesting.

Wins and losses are absolutely a factor, but strength of schedule is almost as big a factor. There are many times I am more impressed by what a team did in a loss than I am by what another team did in a win because of who each of those teams played. For example, the most impressive thing Raceland has done all year is lose by one score to Ashland in a game they were leading at halftime. That is their only loss, but that causes me to see them as the #3 team in 1A more than any of their wins so far. After that loss I would be more inclined to look at moving them up in the rankings than move them down.
