The Thoroughbreds looked the part of a legit contender in a 41-0 rout of Scott, due in no small part to the legs of Kyle Kelly. A week later, Kelly doesn't play versus Cooper and NewCath loses a game that most expected them to win, with or without the Ohio U commit.

Under the assumption that it's a matter of when, and not if he's coming back… Are the 'Breds a championship threat to be taken seriously with Kelly in the lineup? They would potentially have to go through both CAL and DeSales just to get out of their region.

I know, I know… it's early, and we've only seen a very small sample size of NewCath at full strength. Plus, after what happened last year, getting the district back from Lloyd is probably a little higher on their list of priorities this season than the 2A heavy hitters. Humor me, people.

With Kelly, I think so.

Let’s see how the CAL regular season game goes. That will set the barometer. They have the weapons on the outside this year to contend.

Didn't they beat CAL last yr? I know last yr don't mean nothing now but a lot of Newcath players are back from last yr.

CAL played w/out their starting QB. I know that you have to beat the team that is in front of you, but a team w/out their starting QB isn't the same team.

No. Cal, Desales, Mayfield, Danville are a different level.

Didn't Danville lose last week? An didn't they lose half of there offense?

They lost to Corbin. If you’re trying to compare that to losing to Cooper you’re sadly mistaken.

Pretty sure newcath was without there d1 player that makes a huge difference. I will say newcath's firepower on offense will contend with all those schools your saying. But thanks for your input.

I’ll disagree. But we shall see as the season continues.
