BluegrassPreps Central Kentucky Power Rankings 8-19 - Week 1

Featured Replies

The season is underway and right off the bat there is some moving and shaking in this week's Central Kentucky Power Rankings. There were strong performances by multiple teams and players. Some familiar names had their usual performances and some new names emerged onto the scene. With no further ado, here are the Week 1 Power Rankings for Central Kentucky.

Top Ten:

1. Scott County-(6A)- Scott County began the season in dominating fashion with a 56-13 win over North Bullitt. They ascend to the top of the rankings as a result of that performance. Next game: home vs. Lafayette 8/24

2. Frederick Douglass-(6A)- Much like Scott County, Frederick Douglass also began the season in dominating fashion as they manhandled #6 4A Wayne County by the score of 48-10. Next game: at Tates Creek 8/24

3. Boyle County-(3A)- Boyle County defeated #10 6A Ballard 35-21 in a game that was closer than I expected it to be. They drop two spots in the rankings following their win. Next game: home vs. Franklin County 8/25

4. Lexington Catholic-(3A)- Lexington Catholic moves up to #4 this week as they emerged from Week 1 with little trouble in their 51-12 victory over Madison Southern. Next game: home vs. Ryle 8/24

5. Madison Central-(6A)- Madison Central jumps up a spot to #5 in this week's rankings as they defeated Collins 23-7. Next game: home vs. Woodford County 8/24

6. Henry Clay-(6A)- Henry Clay is the biggest mover of the week as they rise three spots to #6 after their impressive 50-22 victory over Tates Creek. Next game: vs. Covington Catholic (at Lexington Catholic) 8/24

7. Anderson County-(5A)- Anderson County absolutely plastered George Rogers Clark in a 41-0 victory to get their season underway. Next game: home vs. Meade County 8/24

8. Franklin County-(4A)- Franklin County kicked off their season against rival Western Hills and staved off a late game rally to secure the 27-20 victory. Next game: at Boyle County 8/25

9. Danville-(2A)- Danville got off to a slow start but kicked it into high gear in the second half as they shut out Woodford County 40-0. Next game: at Corbin 8/25

10. Lexington Christian-(2A)- Lexington Christian is the other biggest riser this week as they defeated Waggener 34-20. Next game: at Pikeville 8/25

Player of the Week:

Langston Jackson-Henry Clay- Langston scored 3 total touchdowns against Tates Creek. Two receiving touchdowns and an interception return for a touchdown. Langston had two receptions that totaled 151 yards and his interception return touchdown went for 23 yards. He also had 44 yards rushing.

Top Performers:

Cameron Jones-Frederick Douglass- 14-18 passing, 286 yards, 5 touchdowns

Reese Smith-Boyle County- 7 receptions, 143 yards, 1 touchdown, 1 interception, 4 tackles

Landen Bartleson-Boyle County- 108 yards rushing, 3 rushing touchdowns

Ramond Jackson-Henry Clay- 87 yards receiving, 2 receiving touchdowns, 1 punt return touchdown, 7 tackles

Wandale Robinson-Western Hills-3 total touchdowns

Game of the Week:

Lexington Christian(2A,1-0) at Pikeville(1A,1-0)- Lexington Christian travels to Pikeville to face one of the best teams in 1A. Lexington Christian has had to replace a lot of their offense and leadership from last year's team but they are off to a promising start so far this season. We will learn quite a bit about Lexington Christian in Week 2.

Games of Interest:

Danville at Corbin 8/25

Covington Catholic vs. Henry Clay at Lexington Catholic 8/24

Meade County at Anderson County 8/24

Ryle at Lexington Catholic 8/24

Lafayette is not in the top 10?

No. I am watching them but no they are not in the top 10 at this moment.

Lafayette is not in the top 10?

Watched them play Bryan Station and it wasn’t pretty by any means on either side. Lafayette struggled to beat a team that might win 3-4 games all season.

3. Boyle County-(3A)- Boyle County defeated #10 6A Ballard 35-21 in a game that was closer than I expected it to be. They drop two spots in the rankings following their win. Next game: home vs. Franklin County 8/25

Dropping the Rebels to 3rd after beating a big, talented, ranked Ballard squad by multiple scores? Sheesh, you're a hard man to please!

I'm mostly teasing you, but only mostly.

I know you expect a lot from the Rebels, but damn. I think we could look back on the Ballard win weeks from now and see it as a reason to strengthen Boyle's case for #1 in CKY.

There is good argument for it and we'll know more in the future but I'm not 100% sold FD could beat Ballard.

Absolutely. And if so I assure you that the power rankings will reflect that. I’m watching the Male/Ballard game closely. That game will give us an early look at the potential of Boyle County, Ballard and Male. I’ve seen Boyle County and Ballard play and we all saw how Male manhandled Bowling Green in a scrimmage. I think at this time next week we’ll know a lot more than what we do today regarding all three teams.

I hear you. My mindset is that Ballard didn’t play their best game and they still had a chance to win that game last week. I think Scott County and Frederick Douglass are both better than Ballard and that they would both beat Ballard in a similar fashion as Boyle County if not by more. The Male/Ballard game will tell us more in how impressive Boyle County’s win is.

Pride,

Great work here!!! But Tough Love for the Home Town Rebels of Boyle County. But I love that honestly, especially early in the season as I'm tougher on BG than I am on any other team.

With that in mind and after reviewing the stats for the game, couple things:

1. Boyle County's numbers are quite impressive. They outgain 6A Ballard by about 110 yards. They are only outrushed by about 30 yards and they have about 140 more passing yards than Ballard. Their QB, who I saw at the CHardin 7v7 (so I know he is good) went 15 for 23 for 227 yards and 2 TDs and NO INTs. Not sure how much more that young man can do.

2. Rebel defense has 4 INTs - WOW!

Again, I love the tough love because it sparks great conversation, but put me on the upswing of the teeter-totter for Boyle County.

OH, and concerning Male. The game this week at Male vs Ballard will be all Male. I will go out on a limb and say they put a running clock on Ballard. We will see. They are IMO the #2 team in the State. I say that after seeing against BG in scrimmage. If Boyle County can get that type offense on Ballard, so can Male. But that's why they play the game though!

Keep up the great work in Central KY!!!

I think it was the right move, Douglas is far better than Ballard, and Boyle couldn't put Ballard far away.

That’s where my head is at right now.

Far better? Heck no.

Better? Maybe.

I think Ballard will be better than some are thinking. Right now I can agree with these rankings because it's early in the season.

I’m definitely curious if that may be the case. I don’t need much reasoning to want to rank Boyle County number one but if they are number one over Scott County and Freddy D then I want to be as close to sure as I can possibly be. I underestimated Ballard once. We’ll find out soon enough if I have underestimated them twice. If they play Male the same way they played Boyle County then I have to imagine that Ballard is really good because I honestly feel like Male is the second best team in 6A right now.

A person can honestly make a good argument that Ballard gave that game away against Boyle County.

To be fair neither team played their best game. I credit Ballard for Boyle County not playing their best and Ballard should credit Boyle County.

If Ballard limits the mistakes they can stay with Male. My eyes will be on that game this week.
