July 23, 20188 yr To your point, I didn't even know those three songs were covers by those artists. Yep. All Along The Watchtower was a Bob Dylan song first. Turn, Turn, Turn was a Pete Seeger song first, and Me & Bobby McGee was a Kris Kristofferson song first.
July 24, 20188 yr I'm going way back here but Cat Stevens sang a song whose name was, I think, "Morning Has Broken" and I believe it was a traditional Irish folk song.....may have been on his album "Tea for the Tillerman." It is a beautiful song. I always liked him......he became a Buddhist monk, I believe.

I never realized that was a church hymn before Cat Stevens recorded it...although I always used to kind of shake my head a little about singing a Cat Stevens song at mass in the church parish that I grew up in. For what it's worth, Cat Stevens became a Muslim, not a Buddhist. His name is Yusef Islam now...he actually found his way onto the no-fly list in the United States for a little while for having donated to some Islamic charities that were tied to Al-Qaeda.

July 25, 20188 yr Metallica Turn the Page Whiskey in the Jar So much of a Metallica sound to two great songs!
July 25, 20188 yr While this version of Tears for Fears "Mad World" by Gary Jules from the 2001 Donnie Darko soundtrack is incredibly depressing, it's hard to deny that it truly captured the feeling of the lyrics, so much that while I like the original alright it truly never effected me the way this one did.
July 25, 20188 yr I'm a devout Cure fanatic, and I completely dig the original, but Adele's cover of their "Lovesong" is the one that really made me stop and take notice of her early on in her career.
July 25, 20188 yr Disturbed singing -Sound of silence . Song has been recorded over 90 times by different artist, I think Disturbed does it better than anyone. Including the original. Tom Jones- Green Green Grass Of Home. Recorded by others before him after the original, Tom by far the best! I prefer Distrubed's cover of "Land of Confusion" over the Genesis original. I also favor Five Finger Death Punch's version of "Bad Company". However, FFDP swung and missed on "House of the Rising Sun". The Animals still own that one.
