As a matter of fact, the Astros won it all and had the best offense in baseball, by taking an aggressive approach. The Red Sox have taken that same approach after hiring Alex Cora and went from 10th in runs scored to 1st. Does it work every time? No. But against the type of pitches throwing the speeds that they do today. It is the favored approach, especially for hitters like Votto.

Obviously, you have never played baseball. If he is a good a hitter as you say, and he is, his chances on 2-1 are just as good as 2-0. Honestly, you have never heard a coach say take one or make him throw you a strike. I am turning 60 and you just be younger. The game is played much differently than 30 years ago.

Considering the walk rate is about 10% while the league batting average is around .250 and Morrow has given up more than twice as many hits as walks allowed, yes I'd say that is accurate. They weren't down multiple runs and had a hitter that was fully capable of hitting his pitch out and tying the game. If it were Peraza, Hamilton, Barnhart or even Winker fine take a pitch. Or if you don't have the tying run at the plate, take a pitch. If you've got the tying run at the plate with Votto, Gennett, Suarez or even Schebler then they have the greenlight period.

 

Big difference in Russell and Caratini coming up down 3 and Votto, Gennett, Suarez or Schebler batting down 1. Once swing can tie it. That's what you pay those guys to do.
