Aside from an expensive exterminator, what should I do. I've picked off three young ones so far. Momma is still out there protecting only two more, I hope.

High powered c02 pellet gun best bet. Quiet, so nobody knows your business. Happy hunting! You could set traps but then you have to deal with a spraying skunk.,...

One round of a .22 going off in the city is not going to get the law called. But it sounds like your doing just OK with the pellet gun. I have a .177 HMR with a scope on it if needed.

Use a have a heart trap, but leave it where you could shoot the skunk from a distance safely.

I don't know if this will work for polecats, but I scatter moth balls around places that I don't want armadillos burrowing.

Had a momma and 5 babies behind a retaining wall. Critter Getter guy got three babies in cage the first night and two babies and momma the next night. He walked up to cage with a blanket in front of him to hide himself, dropped it over cage with no issues. He told me he was going to release them in TAC's yard, because he was on the record not allowed to shoot them. Worked out well for $150.

Years ago a family from Mexico moved to NKY. The father worked with my sister. One night they smelled a bad smell, certain that they had a gas leak. They called the gas company who came immediately. Gas worker could find no leak and told them, “All I smell is a skunk.” The father said “What’s a skunk?” Apparently they did not have them where he came from.

Off topic, but reminds me of a skunk story.

The eastern spotted skunk and striped skunk are indigenous to Florida, but they aren't very prevalent. I've lived down here 36 years and have never seen one. I remember smelling spray once down here, but not around where I live. We were traveling though a rural area in the northern part of the state.

I just got an alert that there's a potentially rabid skunk running around our subdivision. I'm heading home to put cats inside as someone has set an animal trap for it using tuna.

That shouldn't be all too uncommon about how he would have thought it was a gas leak. Skunks produce a sulfer based product called thiol which closely resembles what is injected into the natural gas pipeline (mercaptan).

That lasted 2 minutes. Dog got skunked!
