For those that don’t know, Kyler Murray is a football and baseball player at Oklahoma. He is the heir apparent to Baker Mayfield as the starting QB for Oklahoma but is also a stud baseball player and just got drafted 9th overall yesterday by the Oakland Athletics. Would you choose the glitz and the fame that would come from being the QB at Oklahoma and a potential NFL career or would you take the money and spend the next few years in the minors with the hopes of making it to the show?

A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush. 9th overall is big money. Plus there are several cases of guys who gave baseball a shot, and then later came back to football, notably Russell Wilson. You never know what might happen on the football field, where fluke serious injuries can happen (though this can happen in baseball too.)

Usually I agree, but from what I’ve read he has always devoted his time and effort into football and baseball is just something he is really good at (must be nice). I think it depends on what his NFL draft prospects are. He’s definitely in the mold of a Lamar Jackson type QB.

True. I have to think though that A's believe he is signable....that's a high pick to waste. However, he could sign and still play football in the fall. And everything I've seen and read, seems to indicate he will be playing QB for the Sooners this year.

Oh he’s going to start for OU this year if he comes back. They had some packages for him last year just to get him some playing time. He’s a dynamic athlete and Oklahoma has probably had the most consistent QB play of any school since the turn of the century so I don’t expect Murray to buck that trend. I think he’ll be fine whichever path he chooses.

He has leverage that is for sure. If the A's offer the ranch then I'm sure Billy Beene will have in the contract the same language his had when he choose the minors over college football... "If you sign this, no football."

He'll get almost $5 million for a bonus? Take it.

I think he’s gonna do both.

I think he’s gonna do both.

That’s what I read this morning as well. Apparently the A’s are cool with it.

He will play football for OU in 2018 and only in 2018. Reports to the A's in January and will be baseball only. $4.6M bonus.

Smart kid.

He's making 100k less than Lincoln Reilly this year.
