Donovan Mitchell Breaks Rookie Record for 3-Pointers

Featured Replies

Debating the ROY rule is one thing, but comparing the seasons there is none. It is Simmons by a mile. And that is not a knock against what Mitchell has done, but Simmons separated himself from Mitchell, and then Mitchell from the rest of the pack.

Hot take. Simmons is the best player on the 76ers.

Is Andre Ingram a rookie?

If a player his hurt the first three years after he's drafted and doesn't play, his fourth year is his rookie year?

Yes and Yes. Rookies to the NBA.

The three point record is tremendous, but three point records are getting shattered left and right. That aside, Mitchell's ability to navigate in traffic and create space is amazing. I love what he has brought to the Jazz, a top 5 team in the NBA as of today.

What was Simmons doing last season? He isn’t a rookie to the NBA. He just hadnt played.

Which, by rule, makes him a rookie.

Embiid was either second or third in voting last year.

I think you answered your own question. He's a redshirt rookie lol

Isn't the MLB the same way with how they treat rookies?

NBA is a lot stricter. If you only have so many ABs or innings pitched as a September call-up, you can still qualify for ROY the next year when you become full-time. It's happened a time or two.

Correct. In the NBA, once you play your first second, you are classified as a rookie for that season. Justin Patton saw his first action of the season a couple weeks ago for the Timberwolves, playing three minutes; thus, kick-starting his rookie campaign. He hasn't played since :lol2:

I am interested to see how many votes Mitchell gets as a protest to the NBA's rule.
