Loved it.

So glad that this movingly powerful show has remained so significant, and meaningful to so many throughout generations for nearly 50 years. Obviously the story has remained powerfully meaningful to many many more generations much longer than that.

This incredible show has always been one of my absolute favorites. My oldest sister bought the original double brown album when I was about 6 or 7, and I then immediately began listening to it, and learning it the best I could word for word, and it's become a staple in my life ever since, and a certain yearly tradition during Holy Week.

Just last Sunday I attended the Esquire Movie Theater for a sold out sing-along of the movie version put together by the Clifton United Methodist Church near the University of Cincinnati.

I literally cannot get through it without becoming choked up multiple times and have trouble singing the words through my tears.

No doubt that tonight's performance has only won over many many more fans young and old giving it the fuel to continue for many more generations infinitely.

Just a piece of trivia that some might find interesting just in case you didn't already know it, but the original Jesus on the original double brown album was Ian Gillian, lead singer of the British hard rockers Deep Purple (who for me no matter who else does it, and because it's the one that I grew up with, is the definitive Jesus for this show). Still many others have done a fine job with it including Ted Neeley in the movie version, and tonight with John Legend.

Unreal. Was just getting ready to start a thread. Been a huge fan and have seen the play numerous times.

The live fans really amped up the show. Loved how they interacted. Huge cast.

Just bought a ticket to see Alice Cooper at the Taft. Was a little concerned after seeing him tonight. Voice was great but he did not seem very mobile.

I’ve always thought this musical was thru the eyes of Judas. Shocked to see him being the 3rd last to the encore. He was the star of the show.

Snuck out of the family function early and went to the basement to watch it. Anyone missed it, feel free to contact me to watch it again!

2 thumbs up!

Here's Murray Head as Judas on the original 1970 double brown album...

I don't believe there's any footage available of him singing it, but since this is the first version I ever heard as a kid, it's my favorite, though I do very much like Carl Anderson's movie version as well.

Perhaps overkill, but I can't post versions of "Gethsemane" without also posting Michael Crawford's version of it, which is absolutely stunning and moving.

Michael Crawford years ago was a physical comedian on British TV before switching gears with his fame by playing the lead in the original production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's - Phantom of the Opera.

(He also briefly was a roommate of John Lennon's)

Dude has some pipes.

Gone mostly unnoticed by the masses, but believe it or not in 1994 the Indigo Girls recorded a version of Jesus Christ Superstar entitled "Jesus Christ Superstar: A Resurrection" with Amy Ray playing the part of Jesus, Michael Lorant as Judas, and Emily Saliers as Mary Magdalene.

There's a double disc studio version, and they also performed it live.

They grew up loving the show and wanted to give it a go, and to bring their passion to it.

Here's a clip with them doing "What's The Buzz" where Jesus, Judas, and Mary Magdalene all have solo lines in the song.
