Boyd County will play Fern Creek out of the 6th region at 1:30 Thursday March 15th.

Hats off to Boyd County as they end the post Roger Zornes drought. Even without one of their star players, they were able to cut down the nets and claim the best of five series this season over their arch-rival.

 

The 1st half was ugly. The 2nd half was better.

What happened? Prior to January 9th, it seemed like Ashland had a rotation established with players knowing and fulfilling their roles. During the span of days between January 9th and 19th, it appeared to have been decided that they were going to go with a different rotation altogether than they were during the successful first part of the season. Players who were starting were demoted to JV. Players who were playing JV became starters. Players who were effective bench players became not as effective starters. The team’s leading 3 point shooter was benched and rarely saw more than 1 shot per game during the second half of the season. The team at the end of the season did not remotely resemble the team at the beginning of the season. The team at the beginning of the season would beat the team at the end by 30. It’s almost as if they changed coaches during that 10 day span. What a turnaround.

What an odd game. Both teams were ice cold to start, Hunter Mays kept Ashland alive scoring the first 11 points I think. The officials were awful. 35 FT's for BC 12 for Ashland. BC actually had more FT attempts (35) than field goal attempts (30). I think they only made 12 field goals the whole game. Ashland actually scored 12 more points from the field, and missed atleast 3 layups, one that would have put them up 8. Then BC comes down and hits a 3, cats never recovered from that 5 points swing.

 

There was a crazy sequence where Cade Brandt picked up 3 fouls in like 15 seconds, on the third foul Chase Villers was elbowed and bloodied in his mouth, so much so that he sat out until halftime and had to change uniforms...but the foul was some how called on Ashland. Not sure how this group got a region final game. I think they are from the 10th region, prayers to all yall in the 10th if that is true.

I mean if I was that bad at something I wouldnt go and do it in front of 3,000 people.

 

Tomcats got the lead down to 1, with 29 seconds and a Villers 3 to tie was just off the mark with about 10 seconds left. I know its not a good look, but cant help but feel like the Tomcats were jobbed in this one.

Does anyone have names of the three who officiated the 16th title game? Heard it was some of the same crew that did the 39th District (in the 10th Region) Tournament.
