Do we ask too much of Teachers?

Featured Replies

My only problem with this is all states employees are looking at this pension crisis. Not just teachers. But all you hear about in the news is teachers.

But teachers are also the ones leading the fight.

But teachers are also the ones leading the fight.

They fight a lot for themselves. I get the feeling that if they got what they wanted they'd be cool.

I would expect any group to fall to the wayside once the got their needs met.

Goes back to my original point. Teachers get the attention but there's a lot of people with very important jobs who are just as worried about losing their retirement. And the teachers retirement is funded much better than most of the states employees.

But teachers are also the ones leading the fight.

They also sat on the hands and mouth for 16 years while the state took their funds and said/did nothing.

I appreciate what they do. But saying that. No one is forced to become a teacher. If you don't agree with the pay or responsibilities....go into another field.

Don’t believe that’s how it went. They weren’t aware that things weren’t being handled right by the powers to be in Frankfort.

Slice that up however you want. Others could do the same.

The state agreed to pay it back and didn’t. Teachers don’t manage the money. They pay into it and the state manages it, and while teachers knew the state wasn’t paying it back, they we’re being told the state would.

The government was using it to pay for other programs, supposed to pay it back and they didn’t. Now teachers are where they are.

Other state employees can get in and cause some noise, too, but teachers by in large are the ones in bulk fighting back.

My husband and I are both retired teachers. I started teaching in 1978. I went into to teaching because I wanted to help make a difference in a child's life. To go into another field was not a option I even considered. I loved my job , not all people can say that. I am very proud to say I was a teacher.

That's all fine and well until there's no one teaching. There is already a shortage of teachers in many communities. What happens when it becomes critical?

Beautiful, goldie! I, too, am proud to be a teacher. The job has changed greatly in my 22 years, but I can't imagine being anything else. I hope that I don't have to leave the profession.

Are those professions being vocal in fighting for their retirement, too?

Some aren't allowed. Others aren't organized.
