February 27, 20188 yr I just asked it. All I hear about is teachers, but there's a lot of people worried about tbis that cant protest and barely ever get mentioned. I have several friends who are teachers, I don't want them to lose their pension, but I don't want any state employee to lose theirs. And the fact remains that our government has not let the KTRS get anywhere near as bad of shape as the rest of the retirement system. I never said teachers can't or shouldnt rally. I just said they get all the attention but there are others out there that are in the same boat. Who are these other groups?
February 28, 20188 yr Who are these other groups? What do you mean? I'm talking about the rest of the state's employees who fall under the Kentucky Retirement System, hazardous and non hazardous, which are funded much worse than KTRS.

Which groups of state employees cannot rally for their pensions and are funded worse than teachers?
February 28, 20188 yr Which groups of state employees cannot rally for their pensions and are funded worse than teachers? KRS Hazardous and non hazardous are funded worse than KTRS. Some jobs in state government prevent you from sharing your personal opinion on anything political or participating in political protests.

Seems like anyone who can’t speak up would be happy teachers would lead the charge.
February 28, 20188 yr Seems like anyone who can’t speak up would be happy teachers would lead the charge. Still completely missing my point. I've had people tell me about how bad things are going to be for teachers numerous times. Those same people had no idea other state employees were having to worry about their pensions too, because the only ones most people hear about are teachers.

Hopefully, the rallying that teachers do will have a long reaching effect on other government professions, for those that cannot speak up for themselves.
February 28, 20188 yr What will happen If/when Social Security goes bankrupt and leaves everyone who has "paid in" out in the dark? One of the big benefits of going into the education field is the retirement system...take that away and it will be tough finding teachers. As a teacher we do have to look at our role in the retirement system IMO... I like how Indiana does their teacher retirement where you have a number you have to reach 85 years...so basically a 55 year old with 30 years of teaching is eligible to retire. If you are 50 and have 27 years, your number is only 77 so you must keep working...So a teacher in Indiana who starts at 22, much work until they are 54 years old (32 years experience)...

Isn't that number 87 in Kentucky?
