Oldham County hosts Simon Kenton this Friday in Buckner.

Big game ....these two always seem to play one of the tightest games in the 8th region season. Of the last four meetings between the two, only one (2 years ago) was decided by more than 7 points (Oldham won that game by 23).

The other four games were decided by 3, 1, 3, and 7 points....

Look for more of the same Friday.

Oldham is coming off a pretty impressive 72-58 win over a good Waggener team on Tuesday in which the Colonels shot 63% from the floor, with Travis Henderson (24 points) and Zach Larimore (21 points) leading the way. Larimore added 10 rebounds for the double-double.

SK rebounded from a 66-65 upset loss at the hands of South Oldham - I say "upset" because South was missing three starters - to get a big win over Gallatin County by 12.

Both teams can use this as a springboard to launch the February portion of their schedule. Both teams have big games following this one: SK at home against Campbell County and Oldham faces defending 8th region champ Collins.

Live video broadcast begins at 7 pm on The Pegasus Sports Network - PSN

I will try to post updates from the gym during the broadcast.

Oldham County leads the all-time series, 9-6, since SK joined the 8th region in the 2005-6 season, including 4-1 in Buckner.

Oldham County won the last meeting, 55-52, at SK, on 2/3/17. Two players who will be on the floor tonight starred for their respective teams in that game:

Zach Larimore (Oldham Co) had 21 points / 7 rebounds

Zach Kelch (SK) had a double-double: 12 points / 12 rebounds

Oldham features the region's #2 scoring offense at 70.1 ppg; SK is not far behind (#4 in the region) at 67.4 ppg.

Oldham features the #4 scoring defense in the region (53.9 ppg)

Oldham hits 52.3% from the floor, ranking them #5 in the state in field goal accuracy.

SK has been the dominant player in the 32nd district since moving to the 8th region (75-13 since 2005-6 season), but has struggled at times against other 8th region teams from the 29th, 30th, and 31st districts, going just 31-36 (.463) during that same time span.

Game might be cancelled Kenton County schools closed today snow day.

Ugh. I'd hate for this one to be canceled. Always a great matchup, even when one or the other seems "down" - (and both certainly look solid this year!)

I always enjoy broadcasting this game.

Still no word from Oldham County HS. The AD at Oldham contacted the AD at Simon Kenton this morning, but as of now, no announcement.

I was told they are playing but of course that’s not from an official source.

Up to this point it seems as if my Neers have beaten teams they were expected to beat and lost to the perceived higher ranked teams. Hoping they win but history isn't in their favor.
