December 11, 20178 yr Anyone else see the Tom Savage incident yesterday? Dude got concussed so bad he appeared to have a mini-seizure on the field, and was allowed to return just a couple plays later. Video showed him on the ground with his hands shaking at the feet of an official, yet he was somehow cleared to return, only to be removed and deemed concussed a few plays later.
December 11, 20178 yr Author Yea, how's that happen? Scary seeing him lying on the ground like that. Exactly. I'm trying to figure out how an independent neurologist evaluates him after that and doesn't hold him out. Inexcusable.
December 11, 20178 yr Is there an independent evaluator on each side? If not, just wondering if that person was on the other side of the field (maybe dealing with another player?), and hadn't made it over to the Texans' sideline yet. If that's the case, then perhaps the NFL needs to be looking at having one on each side. I guess you could still get caught with your guy in the tent dealing with a teammate and someone "slip through the cracks". But when it's this bad, shame on the Texans' coaching staff for letting him go back in before he saw the doctor.
December 11, 20178 yr Somebody's going to lose their job because of this one. Horrible Knowing how the NFL operates, I'd expect Tom Savage is more likely to lose a job than anyone involved with the Texans organization.
December 11, 20178 yr Yes, it is a failure. Repeated instances of teams/players/referees to comply to the rules tell me the NFL isn't overly concerned. Either hold the three aforementioned parties accountable for player safety or give up that whole spiel about caring about it. Or Let's start the transition to "Are you ready for some Futbol?!"
December 11, 20178 yr The NFL is so inconsistent in every aspect. They set up this tent to examine and now on multiple occasions we've seen players enter and exit within a single play. This is the same league that won't even allow two shells for potential throwback games. I saw Mort on with Bob Ley today, I was shocked to see an ESPN representative going against the NFL.

My understanding is the independent evaluator is actually in the nfl booth upstairs so he can evaluate all players at once. He then calls on the NFL medical team if he deems a player needs to go into protocol. Thats how it was explained during a game a few years ago, not sure that still holds true today.

I guess my question evolves then into, is there just one NFL medical team per game, or is there one on each side? Because surely to goodness the guy in the booth couldn't miss Savage lying on the ground, could he?

That I dont remember, but also, think about all the people around the player on the field, it would get hard to see (from the booth) what is going on with all the bodies in the way.
