Bourbon soaked, now I'm intrigued.

 

My grandmother would wrap a fruitcake in layers of cheesecloth, douse it all in bourbon and then freeze it for a month or so, adding more bourbon from time to time. She'd take it out of the freezer on Christmas Eve morning and by dinner time it was thawed and she would unwrap the cheese cloth and slice the cake...SOOOO good!

 

You can also add bourbon to the batter, soak the dried fruit and nuts in Bourbon....I'm just sayin'...bourbon does a fruit cake good.

"good" and "fruitcake" should never be used in the same sentence. It's an oxymoron.

My mom did the cheesecloth thing but used wine instead. I just never liked it, the rest of the family seemed to like it though. But bourbon! I'd give that a try!

My verison of fruit cake is make a cake and pour fruity pebbles in the mix.

Absolutely fantastic. Got to be moist and if you keep in refrig you can enjoy it for multiple weeks. Dry fruitcake is unforgivable and downright garbage.
