I loved the twist of words in this song. Best Eagles song IMO.

I've always loved the word twist there as well. My favorite lyrics in the song.. Oh, and it was his singing of this song that made Meisner my favorite Eagle. Nobody does this song like Meisner!!!

The Eagles - "The Last Resort"

I think this was on the flipside of a 45 that I had - maybe "Life In The Fast Lane"?

"The Last Resort" is much better than "Life," in my opinion..

Ooh, another love has come and gone

Ooh, and the years keep rushing on

I remember what you told me before you went out on your own

Sometimes to keep it together, we got to leave it alone

He had white horses and ladies by the score

All dressed in satin and waiting by the door...

White lace and feathers, they made up his bed

A gold covered mattress on which he was laid...

He went to fight wars for his country and his king

Of his honor and his glory, the people would sing...

A bullet had found him his blood ran as he cried

No money could save him so he laid down and he died...

This one might've fallen through the cracks when I first posted it so I'll try it again. With the distinctive lyrics I kinda thought that it would've been guessed immediately.

Clock strikes upon the hour

And the sun begins to fade

Still enough time to figure out

How to chase my blues away

I've done alright up to now

It's the light of day that shows me how

And when the night falls, loneliness calls

Knights in White Satin

Knights in White Satin

Nope but here's another hint...

The writer of this song, by total coincidence, died one year ago today at the age of 69.

Remarkable too is that he wrote it at the age of 12.

Knights in White Satin

I saw what you did there.... the words "White" and "Satin" are in the song...didn't even think of that. :lol2:

...and you spelled it "Knights"....clever.

B-ball fan I wanna to dance with somebody, but not you.:lol2:

Awe...You had to go and shatter my heart.

Check out this down tempo cover of the tune. Some instantly dig its depth and how the lyrics really take on the meaning of loneliness, while others can't get the original out of their head long enough to appreciate it. If I'm pushing the tune, you know what camp I'm in. :lol2: I think it's just brilliant.

Now back to crying in my coffee over being rejected.

Really cool version. Never realized how sad the song was.

That's cool that you dug it... so wild how the dude made it so deep.

Previous to hearing this version I pretty much never considered it to be much more than just a dime-a-dozen ding-dong pop tune. :lol2:

Back to the seventies we go ...

He left home on a winter day 1969

And he hoped to find all the love

He had lost in that earlier time

Well his sister grew up

And she married a man

He gave her a son

Ah yes a lovely son

They dressed him up warmly

They sent him to school

It taught him how to fight

To be nobody's fool
