No, there's no guarantee that my hometown teams will make it back while my children are in school. I'm choosing to take them and spend $300. Fringe fans aren't going to spend that much money though. I'll be interested to see how attendance looks this weekend.

I have no idea what is considered good or bad attendance for high school championship games. I'll wait for Josh Moore or one of these other guys to tell me if it was good or bad.

What would you complain about if the tickets were free?

I have three problems with it. 1) it's too much for a high school game 2) kids between the ages of 3-8 have to pay full price 3) fans on the home side of the field are forced to either buy the more expensive tickets or sit in seats near the end zones.

 

I think $8-10 would be a good price and kids under 8 should get in free

 

So $3-$5 less would attract way more people?? Again, I don't think it's the ticket price that keeps people from coming. It's the $100+ of restaurant food, the $150 hotel room, and gas $'s that really keeps people away. The $13 ticket is the easy part. And as was mentioned in a previous post, unless your team is playing, most casual fans have something better to do than take a trip somewhere and sit in the cold to watch a HS school football that they have zero connection to. If HS school football is your thing, I'd say you are a little more than the "casual" fan, and the $13 bucks for the ticket isn't even a consideration.

Maybe it is. I just don't think it's keeping many people away. Making the ticket $5 cheaper doesn't even pay for a meal or enough gas to get you there. The pricing is inline with most other sports. Heck, I had to pay $30 to watch my kid wrestle in the State Tournament.

Obviously, it will never be done but I'd be interested to compare attendance numbers for this season vs. $5 tickets next season. Even then it would be imperfect because some teams travel better than others, but I would be interested to see if price affects attendance.

If you want to have State Championships at College/Pro Stadiums, you're gonna have to pony up. Certain Schools not making the Finals is a bigger hit on attendence then pricing. KHSAA loves for Belfry to make it. Look at KHSAA Financial reports from playoff games. Like small schools in basketball, the more they advance the better it is for the KHSAA.

I think this will be well attended due to the location and teams, Franklin Simpson and Mayfield are the odd ones out in reality.

I think $13 for a high school student or younger to attend is just too much. And the $13 is misleading due to the the "convenience" charges by ticketmaster.
