Louisville Catholic Schools vs. Covington Catholic

Featured Replies

Not to mention, and obviously no shot whatsoever at the Louisville schools, but if Cov Cath was looking to make their schedule more difficult, a home and home with one of the GCL schools probably makes more sense strictly for traveling purposes.

No offense taken, it would make perfect sense for them to look across the Ohio first

A series hasn't developed because CovCath couldn't compete with the Louisville schools year in and year out. Don't let one spectacular season cloud your judgment.

As someone pointed out, it would be difficult for CovCath to compete with schools that have twice the enrollment on a year in, year out basis. However, there are years when the Colonels could play with the Louisville big schools. This is one of those years.

CovCath and X completed a 4 year series in 2010 with X winning all 4 games. 2007 - 2010 were mediocre years for CovCath and X did not have much problem winning those games.

On a positive note for CovCath, the 1999 team handed eventual state champs St. X their only loss in a 14 -1 season.

That was the year of the wreck and they were also #22 in the nation (I believe).

I pointed that out years ago but someone said they St X was sitting some of their starters.

We started out that year on fire with the first two games, then lost three straight, then the wreck happened, and then it went all downhill.

Thanks for the info. I didn’t realize there was such a large difference in the size of the schools. I believe CovCath has played some of the Louisville schools on the JV & freshman level in the past. Just wondered why nothing ever happened with the varsity teams. Those match ups between teams from different parts of the state always intrigues me.

Perhaps CC and DeSales can get a series going. I know DeSales plays STX in 2018.

I'm all for frosh/JV games between CovCath and T/X. CovCath has been cruising along over the last few years at the frosh/JV level and matchups with T/X at the lower levels would likely help all programs.

Doubt Cov Catholic would be able to compete on a year to year basis. Cov Catholic team was beat last year in the playoffs by Fern Creek. DeSales beat Fern Creek.
