St. Xavier 48 Scott County 35

Congratulations to St. X on the win. I was fortunate to talk football one afternoon with Coach Wolford & Coach Bruner. I was impressed with them as coaches and people.

Congratulations also to my very good friend and outstanding football coach, Jim McKee on ANOTHER outstanding season. His comment was not an excuse. Just stating a fact. His comment combined with my conversations with him..... Trinity, St. X, Moeller, & Elder have great football programs.

I get it... we are all entitled to our opinion. Just sharing mine.

Has nothing to do with making excuses. If you watched his interview he stated that St. X was better. He basically was saying that those programs at the private school level were better than Scott County over his tenure there, which is true. Jim McKee is a great coach and has done something rare in today's world, that is stay at one place for an extended time. Scott County is one of the best programs year in and year out in the state of Kentucky. They are playing high level competition and no one is making excuses. I agree with chiefsmoke, he was just stating facts. That is the standard you have to meet to win it in 6A football, so I am sure he will go back to work and get the team ready for next year.

How much will SC lose from this team?

Um. Pretty sure X and T are the largest male enrollments in KY.

“We are 63-2 against Kentucky schools over the past 7 years in the regular season, but we are 0-10 against the Cincinnati and Louisville private schools." Got to love it when coaches take credit for a win but won't own a defeat. Hmmm... maybe if you don't call two pass plays deep in your own territory late in the half which lead to 13 quick points for your opponent things would be different. X was better prepared = X victory.

I guess he doesn't count his forfeit to Lafayette. By my count, that would be 3.

That is true, but SC has 1174 boys.

T as of the KHSAA enrollment report actually has 1155 boys enrolled and X has 1344. While X has more T does not, and that under 200 boy count would probably not be statistically significant.

Henry Clay actually has more than T as well with 1232 enrolled boys.

Per two independent websites (US News and World report is one of them) SC has 2470 students in grades 9-12 (1769 at the high school which is only grades 10-12) and 51% are male. My math says 1259.7 boys. HC numbers I come up with are 50% of 2373 or 1186.5 boys. But as you mentioned, once you get near 1000 I think the statistical impact is pretty minimal. Plus I don't know what good .7 or .5 of a boy would do for a team.

I got my numbers from the KHSAA website.

To get back to the topic, I believe the preparation & coaching of the X-men got them over the hump in this one. Congrats!

Scott county takes their enrollment 10 through 12 because of a freshman academy. T and x take all 4 classes, so no. Their male enrollment is just as large.

But what about Trinity and X being private? Can't they bring in the best athletes from anywhere? If Scott County did that it would be a violation since they are public.

This is simple not true. To start with, every high school in the state, no matter public or private, must abide by the same rules, without fail. Secondly, Scott County, and every other public or private school, can enroll students from anywhere in the county. The only exception to that is, if the school itself imposes boundaries. The state, and KHSAA, do not impose restrictions on the school enrollment, only the schools can do that and any school that closes it's boundaries, does so at it's own peril.

So all Trinity and St. X players can be picked from anywhere in Jefferson County? So lets say the WR from Trinity lives in Fern Creeks district...he can play at Trinity with no penalty?

That is correct. And, that same WR in Fern Creek's district could drive to Scott County and attend school there and play football there without penalty, unless Scott County has self-imposed boundary restrictions. That same WR from Fern Creek and also choose to enroll at Belfry and drive there everyday, or Russell, or Corbin, or Simon Kenton.

I was just wondering. Didnt really know how it worked. Thanks
