Taking down the Confederate Flag will not change people's thinking it will only escalade them more toward racism. If Nascar takes down the Confederate Flag how long will it be before we have to take the prayer out before the race? People want to run down the Redneck image of the Nascar fan, but tell me how many other professional sports still give prayer before the event starts. On the bolded, I have no clue what to say if a person would be more willing to be racism because their Confederate Flag was taken from them. I would hope that a NASCAR fan would be a little deeper than that.

Again, those things are not intrinsically linked, such as the Commandments and prayer. When I say a prayer, I seldom (?) think of the Confederate flag. I do however, think about the about the Commandments...(perhaps not in the "Thou stalt not..." mode, but in the sense of following them).

How about evenings spent sipping homemade lemonade in swings and rocking chairs on whitewashed front porches? Is it learning that honor means never doing/saying anything behind people's backs? What about learning the value of a dollar by working for two summers to buy a car that was 15 years old and still being proud of it? Is it growing up along a creek bank, where you made "bows and arrows" from the willow branches? Is it knowing that there isn't a soul on Earth that wouldn't die from pure bliss after eating your grandmother's fresh blackberry cobbler with hand churned homemade ice cream? Or the memories of "iceskating" on frozen creeks on Christmas day?

I am still a big fan of the flag that stands for the "UNITED States of America"...we aren't fighting the Civil War anymore and the differences amongst us aren't as important as the commonalities...however, we are fighting in battles today in which our troops wear the "stars and stripes", not the "stars and bars" (I didn't mess this one up, did I? lol) nor the Kentucky, Alabama or Mississippi flag. I feel that that is where we need to focus our time and energy.

 

Luckily, those same troops fight for the right for us to disagree on this and other issues. I am glad that Bluegrasspreps is such a great place to air disagreements. I like to be able to consider things from a different viewpoint (I am practicing this!) As someone once said, "I disagree with what you are saying, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it!"
