Physicality, much like the first game, took over late in the game, and the score indicated the result. Ashland has more athletes and team speed but JC’s size and strength wore the Tomcats down. Not fumbling so much helps to.

 

The turnover battle was tied this go around, I would estimate JC had 500 to 600 yds on the ground.

 

The ADI credits JC with 417 yards on the ground. Those sweeps, especially with Johnson and #20, just killed Ashland all game long. It seemed like they were picking up 5 or 6 yards on every pitch, and then they sprung a couple of them for long touchdowns. JC's backs really finish their runs in a physical manner. It was fun to watch.

Completely agree with the sweeps. As fast as Ashland is on defense it didn't matter, they didn't have an answer for those plays. Even when Ashland closed off the corner quickly JC's big back had enough forward momentum going to pick up another 2-3 yards after contact. It was certainly a fun game to watch and while it was one of the most physical games I've seen in a while, with both teams showing great sportsmanship after some big hits, imo.

Neither did Dicky on the radio. They didn’t have a 20 listed on their roster!!

Haven't been on since last week. Congrats to Johnson Central on the win. I knew they had a great team, and it was going to be near impossible for the Tomcats to beat them a 2nd time, but I was hoping the Tomcats could create a lot of turnovers again in the rematch. That's why I was so confused as to why Ashland elected to give Johnson Central a short field all night. Making them drive longer distances would have created more opportunities for turnovers, but it's hard to criticize the job Coach Love and his staff did this year. Good luck to Johnson Central this week again Wayne County. I'll be pulling for the Golden Eagles the rest of the way.

I am guessing #20 is Soph. Cody Rice. Listed as #0 on the KHSAA roster. In the posted game stats, Rice has no jersey # beside his name and had 9 carries for 118 yards.

From what I understand #20 is indeed Cody Rice. Apparently he had switched from football to soccer this season, but joined the football team prior to the playoffs. It seems that no one knew who he was or could find any prior stats on him because Ashland was his first game this season. The kid is certainly a great athlete!

I hated seeing the short kicks all night, Johnson Central even started doing it in the second half. I couldn't understand it myself, but like you I can't criticize the coaches for it, I'm sure they had their reasons.
