How does your team keep their stats?

Featured Replies

Raceland has an assistant coach that keeps stats.

Lexington Catholic uses wlstats out of Lexington. I believe they are the same company that does UK games along with many of the surround public schools. http://www.wlstats.net is their website.

What does your team do for stats? Do they have somebody upstairs with a book and pencil? Some stat girls on the sidelines? A computerized program for the PC or PDA?

Please tell us about how your stats are kept and how accurate and complete they are.

If you use a computerized program, please tell us which one and if you'd buy it again or something else.

Toos,

If you're looking for info about which stats program would be best for you guys, call the AD at Pikeville College. They have a great computerized stats program that compiles great halftime reports for coaches AND gives basically a play-by-play run-down of the game afterwards in narrative form (similar to what LexCath's program does).

Not sure the brand name of it. We have a different program, so it was more cost-effective for us just to upgrade it...but what PC has is better than ours.

Thanks for the responses and keep them coming.

I know Belfry has used the pencil and paper method for a long time and so I was curious as to what is out there.

I imagine others may be interested as well, so the more responses the better, especially when it comes to computerized programs to evaluate. Nobody wants to spend a lot of money on something like that without some good feedback.

Mayfield uses pencil and paper...they are kept by retired Coach Lanny Lancaster who has done them for about the last 20 years I believe...

LCA has used FIXEDIT! Football Scorebook for 4 years now...

It is simple and very efficient...I have recommended it to several schools because it works and they have very good support AND it is inexpensive!

Do you think parents of players should be keeping stats?

We have allowed it as long as they are the non-playing players(ie Freshmen dads) OR are not carrying the ball (ie Linemen dads)...

It is BEST to avoid it by all means - if possible - because it puts them in a situation they dont want either - the potential exists anyway.

Scorebook also has a PDA feature now that makes it really easy to stat without having to carry a bulky laptop and it gives you access to stats without having to print them out (half-time). Only draw-back is it doesn't show you scoring summaries and you have to enter rosters before the games so that you don't have blanks in your stats (it doesn't substitute a jersey number for an unknown player).

I think it should be avoided too.

I totally think it is a bad idea to have dads keeping stats, it will only make them "partial" to their kid, (ie) if he got the tackle or not or 8 yds vs 6 yds, etc...

Bath Co has an assistant coach that keeps them in the press box. Also a PDA is used on the sidelines to keep stats. They are compared in case one or the other misses a play. It also helps on tackles. The PDA software is Statware Football v6.0

As an announcer I use pencil and paper. I can keep everything except I don't keep a drive chart and when available we have some one else do defensive stats. I then convert the numbers onto an Excel spread sheet.

I can look at my single page and tell you instantly who has how many carries/throws/receptions etc, as well as yards and fumbles, td's etc. I have thought about going to laptop, but I am very comfortable.

At the half and end of game I simply compile everything on a Team Stat Sheet, Takes me less than 3 minutes. If any one is interested I can attach to an email. Just PM me and I will try to send it along.
