I could understand if it was away from the play and the Paris kid was double his size or something but it was Marcus Ashford, Paris starting point guard for basketball. All around it was the worst officiating I’ve ever seen in a high school game

It was a horrible call. It was a clean block. The news called it a crack back but I don’t think I personally would consider it that. I forget how “soft” football is becoming. I legit almost threw my phone at the tv when I seen it

So anyway after we spotted them the entire first half the rest of the game went exactly how I expected it to go. Paris kids played hard. Congrats on a great season.

On the update thread, I got on the officials several times. I wasn't there so I can't comment on any one particular call. What I was getting from the WLGC crew was that with so many flags flying (on both teams) ....the refs were making the game about them, instead of the kids. Now, I am sure there were many of them warranted but as the HOF player C. Carter says, "C'mon Man", a lot of the calls both ways were picky at best.

Just saw the clip on WLEX Sportszone it's about 5:20 in. The refs made the right call, #9 led with his shoulder. Have no idea where the defenseless player issues comes as #9 ran into the play to pick #10 for Raceland off, the Raceland player was on the runner and not looking at #9. A couple years ago, I agree this is a clean play, but times have changed.

Have seen this call you are describing so many times this year. What we use to love..."a clean crack-back" we would rewind multiple times to show our guys how it was to be done, bragging about the young man's technique and execution. The rule change is amazing to me..."and isn't there some language that the blocker can execute this block if he leads with his hands?" Asking you guys in the trenches.

I absolutely despise the rule. But I have seen crew after crew this season call it. Way I understand it, any block that is out side of the tackle box, must have Arms extended and show some sort of indication that he isn't attempting a kill shot. Which imo, is about as dumb as it gets. Just put flags on everyone and be done with it.

It was called 3 times in the Wheelersburg/Columbus Academy game last night. All 3 were legit blocks. One was over turned after discussion. The one over turned, the kid had is hands up and elbows in. So looking at that, it doesn't take much. It's just hard when they make these rule changes, they aren't ever communicated well enough by the official union before the season starts.

“Lead with open hands” is the official rule.

 

I get it for safety’s sake. But. I get the complaints too.

This score greatly saddens me. Crackback blocks were a point of interest this year with the refs. I'm a Greyhound fan, but it was the right call. I don't like how soft the game is becoming either, but that is how it is. Congrats to the Rams.

It's a hard judgement call, and in place because that's a very easy play to go helmet to helmet, shoulder to helmet on an unsuspecting player. You can make the same block without the killshot involved.

I don't believe you can blame 31 unanswered points on a single penalty in the second half. Just my opinion though.

The quote above was the difference in this game. Raceland in the first half had 2 Redzone turnovers(one at the 3yd line) and another fumble in Paris territory.

 

With 3 minutes to go in the 3rd Quarter Paris is up 9-0. Raceland scores a TD and the rest is history. Paris commits 3? 4th Quarter personal fouls out of frustration. That's why you schedule up. Raceland's "mediocre" offense puts 31 straight.

All I heard all week was this "athletic vaunted offense" Paris that had two weeks to game plan and only mustered 9 points. I was called a "hater" for speaking the "truth". Paris was shell shocked, Maggard sacked 6 times, hurried 12. So even though Raceland lost those 4 games, it prepared them for everything Paris was going to throw at them.
