The 2006 team played a tougher schedule, Elder (lost by one possession), St. X OH (two possessions), Bishop Waterson (blow out), and a lot better Highlands team. They also scrimmaged Trinity that year and beat them, I know that means nothing.

 

This team is really good and they have some top end talent but to say they are the best is semantics. This team is very good and I hope they finish it off, but the 6 class system waters it down, it is what is.

They lost to Elder 12-3, X 23-3 and they only had a passing scrimmage with Trinity.

Hard to compare great teams in totally different eras.

Lot of football left to be played. Save the hyperbole. In the end, does it matter? The state rings from prior teams won't shine any less. The current crew has a lot of work to do.

Unlike some teams Cov put their 2nd string in at the end of the 1st.

The Class 5A opening round playoff was dominated by the unbeaten Covington Catholic Colonels.

 

Per usual, AJ Mayer and Casey McGinness teamed up to do the bulk of the offensive damage. Mayer was an efficient 6-of-7 for 141 yards and three touchdowns while Casey ran for 172 yards and three touchdowns off only seven carries.

 

The CovCath defense also did its part, allowing only 164 total yards and holding Bullitt East’s passing game to minus three yards.
