Will Ballard upset Trinity?

Featured Replies

This question comes up every year. The answer is still no. Ballard has not been a serious threat since Redman left.

The Bruins came within a dropped two point conversion of beating the Rocks in 2003.

Sidenote: In the fourth quarter of Ballard's romp over Oldham County the Bruin cheerleaders and fans chanted "We want Shamrocks!!!". So it seems they really are up for this game.

Ballard will have to wait till basketball season to get the Rocks.

Don't think Trinity will allow the Bruins to score as many points as Eastern this week. Look for the score to be in the 50's with Bruins score to be under 10 points. Rocks may have a few beat up players, but their replacements will do a fine job. GO ROCKS......

I expect Trinity to win, but Ballard is good enough that if they come in really primed and Trinity comes in flat an upset is possible. Friday nights game against Eastern is an example. After jumping out to a 22-0 first quarter lead the whole team looked flat. Eastern gained a lot of yards (and yes I know that a lot of them were against reserves). Ballard is a better team than Eastern and Trinity will need to stay intense for longer than one quarter.

Good points but... Trinity and Ballard are pretty big rivals. Other than St.X, Ballard may be the team that the Rocks want to beat the most each year. I'm sure we will see a number of those clever "friends don't let fiends go to Trinity" tee-shirts on Friday as well as a number of cheers based on the fact that Trinity isn't co-ed. So it seems like the feeling is mutual. I look for Trinity's coaching staff to focus this week's practices on staying "focused" and "finishing". I will be surprised if the Rocks come out flat.

not even close

Trinity -vs- Ballard results:

1995 - 14-12 - Ballard

1996 - 17-10 - Trinity

1997 - 17- 0 - Trinity

1998 - 13-9 - Trinity

1998 - 24-0 - Trinity

1999 - 43-23 - Trinity

2000 - 65-0 - Trinity

2001 - 44-12 - Trinity

2001 - 56-14 - Trinity

2002 - 26-7 - Trinity

2003 - 22-20 - Trinity

2003 - 36-12 - Trinity

2004 - 37-17 - Trinity

2005 - 70-7 - Trinity

So Trinity has won 13 in a row. If you add in Ballard's win in 1995 the average score of this game is:

32.80 - 10.57

That should tell this tale.

^ RP - For discussion sake, what year was it that T scored late in the game to take the lead....(may have been in OT) when the T runner's knee hit at about the two and he stretched into the endzone and the ref called it a TD. NOT wanting to start something, but I know that was a big game in this rivalry.... What year was it?

The J/V team may be the best that I have seen in along time, there are several who really stand out and should be getting some varsity time, I think #20 Defensive End,#81 Kicker #51 offensive lineman, I hear he is working with the first group as a offensive guard, maybe something is in the works.

I heard that several players were going to the funeral home, for the brother of a former player or student who passed away, does anyone know anything about this, if this is true our prayers are with him and his family.

Rocks will romp 44-6.

It was 1991, the final score was 8-7. It was during our 50 game win streak. WE scored late in the game, the score was 7-6 Ballard, we had lined up for our extra point (swinging gate style), we snapped the ball and threw it to Joe Babey behind the line, it was a cluster over there, the play counted as a two point conversion. Replays later showed that his knee was indeed down, before he scored, but it would've been hard to tell. Final Score 8-7. We did however beat them again 24-3 in the playoffs with Ron Hardin going buck wild.

^ Thanks for the memory. I remember the T and Ballard communities really being fired up over that one for several years. Hard to believe its been 15 years....

I taped the TV coverage from all three networks. The replays showed that the knee went down short of the goal line, but are unclear about where the ball was when the knee went down. As I recall, the player was reaching out for the goal. What is VERY clear on the replay is the official standing right on the goal line in perfect position to make the call. I'll take his word for it. My memory of the play itself is a little different. As I recall it was a botched snap that lead to the two point attempt. If I find the time I'll see if I can dig it out of the video archive and refresh my memory. And please, no comments about what kind of nutjob still has tapes from 1991. They aren't even close to my oldest.

That's my recollection as well.
