Just wondering why it seems SK Girls Soccer is not getting any attention this year on the page. They just won their 3rd straight regional title, made the final 4 last year, lost a KY player of the year last year, and have one of the best defenses in the state gave up 12 goals all year. It seems that they play a difficult schedule year after year to make up for not being in the "NKY" region or a difficult district. They even traveled to go play top 20 teams in the country and held their own. Just seems like they are not getting the attention deserved just because they don't play in the 9th. Good luck to the girls in their first round game.

Where have you been all season to post stories about SK girls soccer and let us know what's going on with them? It's up to their supporters to let us know the news as this site and its content are driven by its users!

There is very limited discussion about any team OR game.

Most are just final scores with little or no discussion.

 

As LAW stated above, it is up to the fans and supporters of a program to provide input.

I run a school, sports-specific website, and am often asked why I didn't write a story on a volleyball game or soccer game win. It is an easy answer - No one provided the input. We are not psychics.

 

Especially among these minor sports, you have to toot your own horn.

Understood, thanks for the input and I hope next year I can make a few more games so that I can post some first had things about them not just scores I see on KHSAA.

Judge local interest by camparing the number of hits on the Basketball or Football threads on this site and the truth of the popularity of the sport here at the high school level emerges.

 

Football, Basketball and perhaps Baseball are considered MAJOR sports by the KHSAA. Soccer is a minor sport. It provides an outlet for more kids to play sports at the high school level, as does Field Hockey and Lacrosse. Kids obviously enjoy playing it, BUT it is a horrid spectator sport and you will never hear it discussed at the local barber shop.

You forgot to add IMO after your horrid spectator sport comment. Have you not noticed the interest in fc Cincinnati. I was at the girls regional final game and it was packed. And one other thing I grew up playing baseball and still love it but don't try to say it's a better spectator sport than soccer. IMO

If you know the game it's a great spectator sport. My wife will not watch a minute of baseball but will watch a whole game of soccer.

As a 40 something dad that grew up playing baseball and football i love watching soccer. It does take more understanding to watch the game then just watching a bunch of overweight sumo wrestlers run into each other for 3 seconds at a time. It's easy to spot a penalty even if you don't understand the game.

Remember I played football for years its a relatively simple game. I mean everyone is told exactly what to do every play.

Basketball and soccer are very similar in there is always action albeit basketball is much higher score but it takes multiple skill sets ( dribble while running ,passing and shooting) the game is changing by the second Football not so much.

As for popularity if you get out of the tri state area where soccer is huge I can think of 12 or so club teams with thousands of kids each. Soccer is a more popular sport by far club and high school. How many other football clubs are there? I've never heard of one.

I also think there is a huge difference between high school soccer, which is a rough and physical sport, where there is no continuity and rarely any rhyme or reason, than pro or international soccer where there are distinct offenses and patterns employed and executed.

 

As far as the FC Cincinnati popularity comment, I'm not sold on the fact that this is not a major marketing ploy, when in fact, if the team were to find a permanent home and fans were required to pay full ticket prices, etc., that it would remain as popular as it "appears" today. I'm thinking that maybe the FC Cincinnati Soccer King has no clothes.

Not sure what full ticket prices are but I've been to many Mls games and quite a few Fc games the prices are pretty much the same so I'm not sure what you're referring to. Have you ever been to one? How much did you pay?

Your right some high school games have no flow but if you watch a good team (there are very few in not this year) there is plenty to watch. Go watch St. X play if Campbell makes it that far.

I know Brossart soccer hasn't been great the past couple of year, but this seems pretty harsh coming from a supporter. :lol:

I wouldn't call mustang a supporter just a broadcaster.

Both programs have made it deep into region play the past two years with the boys making it to the semifinals last year and finals this year.
