When I was young, you give me a pile of green onions, roll of Fisher's bologna, and a gallon of ice cold milk and I was a happy man.

It's not something I would regularly buy at the store/butcher. But I don't mind a fried one with American cheese, lettuce and yellow mustard. Or with a fried egg, sans mustard/lettuce. The restaurant where I bartend does a thick-cut one that's pretty good. Not sure what brand they use, but I've always been of the opinion that it doesn't make a lot of difference brand-wise when you consider the main ingredients are chicken toes, pig snouts and cow lips.

I could probably give you a run for your money in this category.

Thin Kahns with cheese and mayo on white.

Only all beef bologna. The other stuff is too slimy for me. All beef, some cheese on white bread with Blue Plate mayo, usually cold, but I’ll eat it fried too. If it’s cold, give me some chips on it too with a little extra mayo.

 

When I was little, my granny would get the kind with the red plastic you had to pull off, put it in the microwave with a slice of cheese on it. The heat would make it turn into a bowl with the melted cheese in it. Good memories!

When I was a little girl my grandfather had a Jersey milk cow named Dearie. Dearie was my best friend. One weekend I went to my grandparents house and she wasn't there. My grandmother and aunt were slicing a roll of bologna when I asked about Dearie. They told me she had gotten old and didn't give milk, so they had her made into that bologna. I'm pretty sure that it wasn't THAT bologna. Nonetheless, I won't touch bologna to this day.

I was told she was old and tough, so that's why she was made into bologna. So, I get what you're saying, but I was 6 years old and Dearie was one of my first "friendships".

I know it is funny 45 years later...but I was 6. It was traumatic. And try as I may, that event is still something I can't overcome.

The ultimate lesson here, of course, is don't be friends with your soon-to-be-food. That means all farm animals. Including Wilbur, who provides very tasty bacon, ribs, loin, shoulder, intestines, feets, and many other delicacies.
