Pete W Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Christian County is undefeated, coming off a 37-6 win over Marshall County. Owensboro is coming off a bye week as the Red Devils look to regroup after 2 straight losses to Bowling Green and Daviess County. Last season this game went to double overtime and Owensboro won 27-24. Does this years contest shape up to a similar game? Can Christian County make up for last year?
DragonFire Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Christian County has been screwing up in this game for the last couple of years, but this time, they’ll get it done to vault into the lead of that district.
Purple Nation Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 I feel this will be a very telling game for other 5A teams to take notice of. If this game is a nail biter I believe that a particular team that wears Purple and Gold will have some questions answered. I predict Red Devils get the win. Nail Biter
BigTiger55 Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 I'm picking the Colonels in this one. I think the Big O is finally starting to click and Christians Defense is just to good for Owensboro to be 1 dimensional against. Now the Red Devils usually have a wrinkle or two coming off their bye week. So I think it'll be close early with Christian pulling away late.
Purple88 Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 What a Great game in Owensboro on Friday night! I'm going to make the trip over for this one! Excited. Couple keys: 1. Turnovers - usually is in any game, but this one in particular as Owensboro has been turnover prone this season. If they are again Friday it could be over quick. County has had some turnovers as well. I believe they set Hoptown up on a short field twice for their lone scores on the night. 2. Christian County rushing attack - the County rushing game has been meticulously groomed (maybe painstakingly so) this season. If they can gain first downs simply by rushing the ball, it will be a long night for Owensboro. But outside of Madisonville (one of the better rushing teams in the state), O hasn't given up more than 150-ish yards in a game this season, including Bowling Green. 3. Owensboro rushing attack - Owensboro basically lines up and runs the veer at you. Can County's vaunted D stop it. I think Owensboro will have some success early, but look for County to make some adjustments and make it very difficult for O to run late. Who has the lead then? Will be key. 4. Kicking game - Not sure who has the advantage, but in a tight game this is where they can be won or lost. I could see Corey Trice (Christian County) or Imonte Owsley (O) taking kickoffs or punts to the House in this game. Very interesting. I don't have a prediction yet as I am wavering both ways. But really looking forward to another Great Game at Rash Stadium!
devils58 Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 There is no doubt that this is a big game for both teams, because both desperately want the #1 seed in the district, which would give either team home field advantage untill semi-state. Christian County is super talented and undefeated. OHS is talented, but young across the board. To me, the difference in the game will come down to OHS turning the ball over. Against Bowling Green and Daviess County (weird saying those two teams in the same sentence), OHS was its' own worst enemy with so many turnovers, which IMO can be fixed. We called the Hancock County-Todd County game last friday on Homers Radio. Both teams ran the veer/flex. The game was a turnover fest as both teams accounted for 9 turnovers, and other fumbles that weren't turnovers. While many OHS fans are weary of the flexbone that OHS runs, at this point in the season, you can't abandon the scheme. Maybe some special packages would be good, but at the core, OHS is built to be a flexbone team for 2017. Having said that, I'm not sure OHS can get their turnovers under control, especially in that offense. Even more problematic for OHS is the amount of penalties against Daviess County. I'm not sure of the exact number, but it had to be close to 20. I do know that coach Fallin DOES NOT accept the turnovers or penalties and the OHS staff will be working extremely hard to correct those mistakes. If OHS can put it together, they're gonna be special, but I have to see it to believe it. Christian County 28 Owensboro 24
ApolloFan98 Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Im not ready to give up on the Devils just yet. While it may not look like it right now at 2-3, this Owensboro team is just as talented as any they have had over the past few seasons. The key for Owensboro is going to be mistakes. They have to limit penalties and take care of the football. I know everyone immediately uses the 1 dimensional argument but I think OHS can be one dimensional and still be a top team. Their line and runners are that good. They simply cannot put the ball on the ground. Defensively, they are going to have to defend the middle of the field. Its been a bit of a weakness for them. This may ruffle some feathers, but I honestly think this game is more about what OHS does or doesn't do than it is Christian County. If the Devils can play a clean game, I think they win. Coming off the bye, ill take em.... OHS 34- Christian Co 28 We will have the call on Homers Radio if anyone wants to listen here... Homers Radio is on Mixlr. Mixlr is a simple way to share live audi... Purple88, you should come up to the press box and say hello! We should be on the south end of the box, right by the door.
