Russell's Jessica Fortman verbals to Buffalo

Featured Replies

I just received word that Russell's Jessica Fortman verballed to Buffalo today. Congrats to Jessica on receiving a scholarship to play at the next level. That's two players from the 16th region that will be playing Divsion 1 ball next year, three if you count VanHoose from the boys. I'm sure we'll see at least one more from the girls side before the year is out.

Congratulations to a very fine player!

Fortman is probably the most underrated player in this area. I would rate her right behind Terry and Queen. She is very deserving.

I have heard that Raceland's Whitney Seals might be headed to Division I Belmont University.

Excellent player, as scooterbob said very deserving. I hope she has a very warm winter coat. Buffalo has been know to have a snow storm or two. Congratulations.

I concur, counselor; a small caveat notwithstanding. I would rate her right behind Queen and Terry.:p

Congratulations to Jessica.

I wholeheartedly agree that Fortman is right behind Queen and Terry.

Congratulations! Does anyone know if any schools closer were recruiting her? Buffalo is a long way from Russell Ky. Any reasons why Buffalo over someone else?

Congratulations to Jessica and the 16th Region for providing another player to Division I women's basketball. Jessica is looking to go in the medical field and Buffalo offers the most medical degree options in the MAC and many of the other conferences. She chose them because of the academics (55% acceptance rate) and she can likely play and contribute for them immediately. She had narrowed it down and had offers from other medical oriented schools such as Vermont, UIC and Dartmouth. She considered offers from Morehead and other schools and although they are good schools they do not offer some majors she is interested in. Others like Samford, Lehigh and Miami had shown a lot of interest but she had not visited them yet or they had not yet made an offer. The Region has a very talented senior class and Jessica is likely the most all around player and team player and continues to improve which is what made a number of teams give her offers to play. She had a very good year with AAU and during the AAU nationals where her Dayton team ended up 4th in the nation (they were 3rd the prior year) she was twice voted MVP of the team in the final national games. She was also one of the AAU team's top scorers and starter on a team where seven of the AAU teammates so far have received Division 1 scholarships.

awesome accomplishment! Way to go and best of luck!

She stated in her interview with the Daily Independent that she would have a chance to play as a Freshman & academics played a key role in her decision.

Congrats to another area player getting the chance to make a dream come true!!!!

I'll say this, our region would make a pretty formidable girls all-star team, and I'd like our chances against the other regions.

Might be Fortman who sometimes plays point guard and is a great passor or Seals who is very quick and also brings the ball down court at times. They could break a press easy with their team size and passing.

Congrats to the Fortman girl, this region is blessed with many talented players and teams in girls b.b.!
