All eyes were on the defending champions and the Beechwood Tigers put on a show. Beechwood downed 3A Corbin in one of Kentucky's premier early season small school clashes to secure their spot as Class 1A's top ranked team. The Tigers now set their sights on another #1 team in the form of 5A Covington Catholic. Hazard faced defeat for the first time as they fell to 2A Somerset. Paintsville, Williamsburg, and Raceland all secured impressive wins in other action. A pair of significant games stand out as four of the Top 10 will compete among themselves.

Raceland pitched a second consecutive shutout, this time over a 4A team just outside the top 10. In guessing those ranking believe Greenup County is better than Frankfort. Williamsburg will have their chance to make a statement this week against Paintsville.

Beechwood will almost surely be #1 next week no matter what happens in the CCH game.
