Warren Central 39 Graves County 14

Featured Replies

Warren Central won big and handed the Eagles their first loss of the season as they fall to 5-1.

Another game where the outcome wasn't surprising but the margin was. I think Warren Central has things back on track.

Yes, they are overrated......they beat Paducah Tilghman and Mayfield...But Tilghman is way down this year and Mayfield had 6 turnovers against Graves and basically handed the game to them.......They are decent but not good enough to beat WC or Marshall Co.......they have the size, just don't have the the playmakers....

I don't know that Graves is as overrated as Warren Central is underrated. Graves is a solid team but depth may become an issue for them in district play. In my view, the Dragons are still the district favorite.

That is just not true about Graves. Handcock should have been a 40 to 50 point game-over very fast. PT should have been easy. The Calloway game sends up many red flags for me.

I suspect that I've seen Graves more than you have. You saw Tilghman on their worst night, and Graves played Hancock probably emotionally drained after their win over Mayfield.

I'm not saying that Graves is something great. I think they will finish fourth in their district. But I'm also saying that they have a decent team.

Never said they were not decent because they will win more than they lose. I have just been saying they were not at WCs level or even close.

I am pretty sure after listening to PTs coach, it was very much their worst night of the season when I saw them. I am getting pretty use to seeing teams on their worst night.

I think Graves is closer to Warren Central than you give them credit for ... not close, per se, but closer than you seem to think. From talking to someone that was at the game, it sounds as if Graves played with Warren Central for virtually the entire first half, then had a quarterback fumble in the pocket and watched it returned for a touchdown.

A summary of the first half:

Graves' score came on their first play when WC blitzed their linebackers, Graves got good blocking up front and had a good play call, and their back was gone. Right call at the right time for their offense. They did very little for most of the rest of the first half, sans one good drive.

WC on the other hand, after fumbling on their first offensive posession, consistently moved the ball. They scored on their second posession, turned it over on downs at the Graves County 1 on their third, scored another TD in the half, and had a late drive end on an INT. Which is not to say that Graves did not earn that stop at the 1 and the turnovers, but it could have gotten worse for them. They made the plays they needed to make and keep in the game at that point.

I feel that their coaching staff let them down on that last TD of the first half. Graves took over on their own 30-40 yard line. They had less than 40 seconds to go 60-70 yards. Their offense is not usually that type of offense (sans the one TD earlier). They are a grind it out, use the clock kind of offense. I felt that downing the ball would have been a sensible call. The fumble was a result of the QB getting knocked silly by a WC DE, and then the ball got picked up and run in for the score. Absolutely devastating for Graves County to have that happen. A two score lead was huge, and WC turned it into a three score lead on the first posession of the second half.

Graves did play somewhat close in the first half, but after the first minute I felt the game was never in danger at all.

Looking at Tilghman's season, I think it's safe to say that the Henderson game was their worst. Did Henderson have something to do with that? I'm sure they did.

Does it mean that Henderson is the best team Tilghman has played this year? Not necessarily ... I think Warren Central is the better team and the team to beat in the region.

Having seen both Christian and Warren Central, I think it will be a very good game. I'd have to give the edge to Christian Co at this time.

Although Tilghman is bad Henderson got them on a bad night as well. If they had one dropped ball they had 12. One of which was by a wide open receiver in the end zone. Jones was like 6-22 on passing and should have been more like 15-22. One the other side he just flat out missed his receivers on a number of passes.

But Henderson also played very well defensively against the run that night.

That is basically what I was told about the game. Jones isn't the most accurate passer, but the receiver corps isn't what it has been in recent years.

Dropped balls have become a staple of Tilghman's offense. Hunter Cantwell's completion perentage would have been even higher if not for an average of 2-4 drops per game.

Tilghman's offensive line is probably the weakest part of the team. They haven't been able to run the ball consistently all season.

Anyway, back to Graves and Warren Central ... I'm not surprised that Warren Central pulled away in the second half. I've thought all along that the Dragons should be a two-touchdown favorite, but a lot of people got down on them over the last few weeks.

In my view, the district has four pretty solid teams, and Greenwood has obviously made some improvement.
