Did You Know........

In this thread let's hear some music/film tidbits that we would not know.

While perusing youtube today I came across a music video from 1989 of the group Diving For Perils and their song "Gimme Your Good Lovin'"......BTW, the song is pretty damn good. While seeing what the members of the group are up to today I find out that after the band broke up that the lead guitarist, Yul Vazquez, has gone on to a very successful TV and Film career. Most will now him as Bob, the gay street tough from the "Soup Nazi" episode.

Drummer Peter Clemente later became Vice President and Director of Online Entertainment at Internet customer relationship management firm Cyber Dialogue.

Bass player David Weeks made the headlines in 2002 as a lawyer representing Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee in their infamous sex video lawsuit against Seattle-based Internet Entertainment Group. He is head of his own law firm based in Westlake Village, CA.

Mike Nesmith's mother invented liquid paper.

Nesmith also won the first Grammy "Video of the Year" for 1981's "Elephant Parts".

Mickey Dolenz was almost cast to play Fonzie. He didn't get the part because he was much taller than the rest of the cast.

Fastway is a British rock band formed by guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke, formerly of Motörhead, and bassist Pete Way, formerly of UFO.

However, Way discovered that he could not escape from his recording contract with Chrysalis Records, and then received a tempting offer to play for Ozzy Osbourne, so he abandoned the project without ever playing on a single record. Bringing in session bassist Mick Feat, the band then recorded their debut album, Fastway (Feat was uncredited on the album).

Definitely on the soundtrack of the summer of '83.

Love this tune. :ylsuper:

Saw them open for AC/DC back in the day on the Flick of the Switch tour.

Something else that I find interesting regarding Fastway:

By 1988 lead singer Dave King from Dublin, Ireland had bailed, and didn't sing on their "On Target" release.

After a short stint fronting the rock band Katmandu he met guitarist Ted Hutt, bassist Jeff Peters, and violin player Bridget Regan, and put together a rock band with a Celtic feel.

They began to play a mix of Irish traditional and rock.

Putting Dave's poetic lyrics to rocking melodies, they played at an L.A. pub called Molly Malones weekly, building a small but loyal following.

Though Ted and Jeff eventually left the band before it went international, the groundwork had been laid for the new sound that Dave King would expand on, and reinvent himself with, and between now and then his band Flogging Molly has put out six full length releases with the most recent being 2017's "Life Is Good", while also touring the world numerous times building a devoted following.

Dave King then:

Sharona Alperin was the album cover girl and whom the song My Sharona was written about. Now a very successful real estate agent in Southern California.

Are you speaking of the cover of the sleeve for the 45rpm single? Because the band is all that's on the cover of "Get The Knack."

The Knack - "My Sharona" (1979)

The Knack lead singer Doug Fieger wrote the lyrics to this song, which is about a girl he fancied.

Doug was in a long-term relationship when he walked into the clothing store where a high school student named Sharona Alperin (who had a boyfriend), was working.

The age difference (he was about eight years older) and relationship status didn't deter Fieger, who was immediately lovestruck.

With his girlfriend looking on, he invited Sharona to a show.

Not long after, he broke up with the girlfriend and professed his love for Sharona, creating a weird dynamic where he would come on to her even though she had a boyfriend who often attended Knack concerts with her.

It got pretty heavy when Fieger started writing songs about her - they weren't together when he composed "My Sharona."

About a year after they first met, Sharona gave in and they started dating.

She joined the band on tour and watched as the song Fieger wrote about her elevated them to stardom. The couple were together for about four years (and engaged at one point) before the rock and roll lifestyle and Fieger's alcoholism became too much for Sharona, and they called it off.

In the aftermath, Sharona answered questions about the breakup by saying that she needed to become her own Sharona, not someone else's.

After a cooling off period, Alperin and Fieger became friends. Alperin was with Fieger the last week of his life; he died of cancer on February 14, 2010.

That's Sharona Alperin on the cover of the single holding the Get The Knack album. She posed for the art even though she and Doug Fieger weren't yet dating.

Got to thinking that I missed an opportunity to say "No Way" to this post, where you could then reply "Way".

See what I just did there? :lol2:

Or... it could be like a "Who's On First" routine:

I'd say "No Way?" and you'd say, "Yeah... that's what I just said...No Way", and I'd say "No Way!", and then you'd say "Way", and I'd say "I just thought that you said "No Way".

Famous actor/comedian Chevy Chase was the original drummer for Steely Dan...

Actually they became Steely Dan...

The college band he was in with his school friends Walter Becker and Donald Fagan was called The Leather Canary...
