I guess every kid is different but I've never understood the whole home sickness thing. Of course there are times you really miss your family/friends/hometown, but so many times you see kids go far away and are back home in a year. I just personally can't imagine being that homesick that I can't be away for 4 years.

 

I hope it doesn't end up being the case here. As others have mentioned, it doesn't get much better than Stanford when taking all factors into account.

I think the academics for athletes is an overrated portion of the package. I work with a former Stanford player who played in the NFL for a few seasons. I've spoke with him about the academic rigors there and playing football. He said quite a few guys come in with these laudy expectations of being engineers or pre-med and quickly find out it's very tough to take classes that require extensive lab work because of the football schedule. He said most end up with your typical stereotyped athlete majors because the tough majors are just too intense at Stanford with football requirements.

 

Having said that a degree from Stanford is still a degree from Stanford.

Had a kid go to Stanford and play a minor sport for a few years (walk-on)

 

Herron just made the best decision of his life!!

 

Stanford is the BEST college in the country, for the all around college experience, and its not even close!

 

And their football program isn't too shabby either.
