When today's 20 somethings get to 40 somethings will they watch MLB enough to let MLB keep the rules the same? I am in the 20 somethings group and I can't name a friend of mine that watches MLB. Yeah we will go to the games every now and again but that's mainly a social thing. On the other hand when its basketball or football season we are very tuned in. The games can be exciting every now and again but for the most part MLB is boring. To clarify, I am only speaking for the people I know and hang around with not the whole age group.

Can a team comeback from 10 down with 6 outs to go, sure they could...but how often has that ever happened? I'd bet it's happened in a minute number of games. I'm not necessarily for mercy rule in baseball but it doesn't bother me either...players, coaches, fans and announcers pretty much check out when a game get's to that point anyway, so why not end it. Let's say if the game is 10 runs in the 8th or later and it's already lasted over 2:45 minutes (MLB average for 9 innings is right at 3 hours) invoke the mercy rule.

People start leaving when theirs a 10+ run difference 7 innings or later. No need in continuing playing when the game is well over. June 29, 20179 yr For the record, I don't think the length of the game has any impact on attendance today. As I stated previously, though, it may in the future with a crowd who wants a two-hour game.
